Yea what OP is looking for doesn’t exist
Southern NH but prices have gone up there too so probably still difficult.
You can't really find a place by yourself for that price in Cambridge (regardless of the dog). Median studio rent in Cambridge is $2,700 and 1-bedroom is $2,750 (https://www.zillow.com/rental-manager/market-trends/cambridge-ma/?bedrooms=1).
There's always a possibility you might be able to find something for $1,800-$2,000 if you're willing to accept a small/basement/a-bit-crappy kinda place.
If you're willing to live in Somerville (right next door) and willing to pay $2,000 you might have better luck.
It's always possible that you might find a place priced waaaaayyyyy under market, but it's just incredibly unlikely. If we could all get 1-bedrooms for $1,400-1,550, we wouldn't be paying $2,700.
Even in Medford, the average 1 bedroom is $2,300 with almost nothing below $1,900. Quincy, the average 1 bedroom is $2,150 with almost nothing below $1,600. Framingham, the average falls to $1,850 so you start getting a better chance out there.
Have you thought about roommates?
Yea I did find a few places for the price I was looking but they aren’t livable spaces if you know what I mean. And yea somerville might be a go i came across a bunch of nice places with a reasonable price
Try Malden. Somtimes you can get lucky, or east Boston. A friend of mine moved there and is paying 1400$ for a 1BD apt.
Even in Malden it’s not easy to find a 1 Bed under 2k.
Really? I figured that if one looked for a while, you could find a place. Guess not.
I was paying $1600 for a 1 Bed in Lawrence in 2020…
You could find something, but $1500…it’s probably gonna be a studio with quirks.
In my limited experience the older large buildings are cheaper so try to find those, especially if you can compromise on kitchen quality, no outdoor space, etc. It will be a struggle.
Roommates. You're searching for roommates.
1-beds for $1550 really don't exist in the area. If you happen to find one, you really don't want to live there.
You can find 2-beds for under 3k without any issues. Many are even a decent size in a decent location. That's $1500/person.
Thank you all for commenting I was hoping a landlord eventually came along….. but I did end up finding a location pretty nice..
