What you said is absolutely true.
It's my dream to visit Yosemite in my lifetime
PraxisLD t1_iwtn176 wrote
If you can, you should definitely do it.
I’ve done a couple of day trips, and once stayed in the rustic tent cabins which was pretty cool.
My dream is to stay in the Ahwahnee Hotel and do it in true luxury.
Saro73 t1_iwttdxs wrote
I live a few hours out and Yosemite is beautiful but it can be very crowded even with the park limiting the number of visitors. Kings Canyon National Park is about 2 hours away from Yosemite and is generally less crowded and has really beautiful sequoias. Grant Grove is easily accessible and has a paved trail to see the General Grant.
LiarVonCakely t1_iwubaw7 wrote
I went backpacking in Kings Canyon and it was truly the coolest long trail I ever walked in my life. So much variety going over these cold rocky alpine environments and back down into these beautiful forests, valleys, and past lakes. And all of it practically untouched.

Going next Month. You should do it.

It really is. I took my kids last summer. Every pic could be a painting you hang in your living room.

I would so love to visit Yosemite one day. When I was a kid I had a copy of Nat Geo featuring Yosemite and I used to just stare at the photos for hours. It seems like a fairy tale place.

Same, but with African Tribes women.
Edit: who are people.

Grew up a few hours away from it. However gorgeous it is in pictures, isw even moreso in person. It's the only place I've ever experienced that is intimidatingly beautiful

When you do go, enter through the Tunnel View. Yosemite is one of my favorite places on earth
steve-d t1_iwtc3qr wrote
It is pretty magical if you can go when it's not overly busy. It helps they have limited how many people can enter the park in the last couple of years with a reservation system.
BogusBuffalo t1_iwujo3o wrote
Don't go during the summer. It's incredibly packed, loud, and generally awful due to the crowding.
Euphoric-Carry1725 t1_iws9m60 wrote
Is this the bridge next to housekeeping camp? I swam right there. The water was probably as cold as it is right now.
VultureCat337 t1_iwsertf wrote
That water is so cold, even in the middle of summer! Although floating down the Merced River is a great experience. I highly recommend it to anyone going to Yosemite.

I was there last weekend. A few days after snowfall. Trails were quite snowy, but it was a sunny day.
If you do any intense hiking (steep), you won't need as many layers as you think, as you will SWEAT!
Been sunny this week though, so perhaps most of the snow has melted by now. Still, I certainly would recommend carrying shoe spikes and walking sticks to help your balance. I didn't have either, and while I did make it up a mountain, I mostly had to sit down and slide to come back down, else I risk slipping and hitting my head.

I just spent 9 weeks there helping out their Fire Crew with the Student Conservation Association. That place is absolutely incredible. There is a stump by one of the beaches along the Merced that I loved to just sit on and relax because it had a great view of the Lower Falls.

Ascurtis t1_iwtdy94 wrote
Yeah I'm not an expert but I feel like there's a little too much of the water in the foreground, and some wasted space where the clearing on the right is.
It is beautiful but I don't know if - maybe I feel like - it's just because that entire area is just naturally magnificent. My eyes sort of have a hard time finding a resting spot, and after being led down the stream, once the water curves out of view I feel like I'm zigzagging through the image, finally sort of settling on the rockface - not because I was led there or because it's what I find interesting but because my eyes need to rest, and my brain finds it to be a sort of neutral zone.
I'm not a photographer or artist, I mean I like to draw and paint and though I don't post, like, anything, I know I don't have a knack for real art so yes I'm talking out my arse, while kind of just trying to articulate my thoughts other than the obvious "nature is beautiful". That is true but I wish I were an artist and really wish I had the eyes for photography, so I could offer OP more than my hairbrained (at best, hypocritical at worst) attempt at constructively debriefing my experience viewing their work.
...nature is beautiful.
[deleted] t1_iwsu9vl wrote
