Evolutionary wise this would be jackpot, your genes will not only survive, but found a whole civilization (at least during the journey).

Except "because evolution" isn't the reason why people do things. Our genes actually don't care about civilization, either. They're molecular chains that don't care about anything. It's only happenstance that they happened to replicate.

Well yes, genes don’t want to do anything. But with self-replication available, the game you can play is sustained self-replication.
