A bowl of cashews, almonds and figs is my personal favorite right after a race!

That sounds delicious actually.. Thank you for answering!

Is anything over 26.5 miles considered an ultra marathon? Not knocking the accomplishment because running that far is impressive as hell I just always thought ultra marathons were like 100 mile races.

50k is like the entry level I guess. I did a few of them, thank goodness trail running is easier than road running or my shins would have been toast.

I never have any problems with my endurance, but after running 15km on a road, I won't be able to walk stairs for the next 3 days ...

Why did you choose a closed loop rather than a more scenic route?
Vannexe OP t1_iyza2id wrote
Wish I could. This was around my college campus. The campus is in a pretty unsafe area, so running outside would be risky, especially given that it was at 4am and I also usually don't carry my phone with me!
void_public t1_iyz8l47 wrote
first of all congrats!
question: i usually start having issues with some body part, be it ankle, knee or similar that starts hurting after around 15-20km - do you have that too and if yes do you just ignore it or how do you deal with it?
Vannexe OP t1_iyzaou9 wrote
Thank you :)
Didn't have any during my training runs, but something felt wrong around my hip and thigh during the 32nd kilometer of the race! Ignoring it was extremely difficult, which explains as to why I walked most of the 41st kilometer, but then I just realise that it's a no-go-back situation as I'm almost done with the distance!
Kezly t1_iyz8qbr wrote
Which kilometre was the worst?
Vannexe OP t1_iyzaiz1 wrote
41st! Had to walk most of that kilometer!

What do you do mentally during a race like that? What do you think about?
Vannexe OP t1_iyzabti wrote
My approach is to try and get zoned out, to the point where your legs are on autopilot. Hence I usually try and pick a point far ahead of me and just stare at that until I reach it, and repeat the same. Helps me!

Wait, so if its 50k, isn't that "only" about 30 miles? Apparently an "ultra" marathon is "technically" anything over 26 miles, so um, congrats on those extra four miles.
Vannexe OP t1_iyza8a4 wrote
Haha yes the 50k is one of the shorter ultra distances!
