so there is a caveat to this otherwise not at all bad tip:

if your parents are abusive or if they enabled abuse against you, they don’t get a thank you or even a call unless you choose to do so.

I'm currently doing just that but better. I'm spending the night at my dad's place right now to spend time with him. He took me out to dinner last night to one or our favorite places. Beven going there since I was a kid. I'm 41 and "sleeping" on the floor and I haven't gone to sleep yet. Its 4:00 a.m and my dad is an early bird. I can hear him now. He has a routine he does where he"ll come open the door to check on me and I'm just waiting for it right now as I try to finish this up and pretend I'm asleep before he does. Good night for reals.
