[LPT] Don't like youtube's frontpage algorithm? You can pick the frontpage category 'New to you'.

For years i hated youtube's new algorithm with passion. Recently I discovered you can select what category of videos do you want to see in the frontpage.

The categories are located right below the search bar, if you scroll to the (very) far right, you will find a category called 'New to you'.

IMO this category is the closest thing to youtube's old algorithm of presenting you random interesting videos (but not too random) instead of having the frontpage constantly filled with same content from 3-4 creators max

It's only better when YT goes into one of its repeating phases where it keeps serving up the same news stories from five months ago because that's what the math in the algorithm is adding up to for some stupid reason.

But I have noticed the "new to you" serves up a lot more of the lowest common denominator trash videos. The kind of shit you see on a new account before you get your tendencies set in the algorithm. Lots of "you'll never believe" and "top ten" titles and thumbnails with red circles.

Still, I end up using it a lot on Sunday nights since no one uploads on the weekends and there is less to pick from.

I have 2 accounts, one for news and everyday stuff, the other for dinosaurs and UFOs. I think YouTube thought my second account was due to stress and started recommending mediation stuff with my dinosaurs, I just not interested them away and kept to what I like. "New to you" doesn't seem so random?

OMG. This is exactly what I’ve been needing. I’m a premium subscriber because I sit and watch YouTube way too much, but same, I’ve been so bored with my feed. I just switched. Nice LPT!

I don't have that category. There's "Recently uploaded" only, which is by far better than the standard one at least!

its so wierd, I also don't have the option now.

but i noticed it only happens if my browser is on full screen, if i exit full screen the category appears.
