LPT request: how to find information how to get visa in Canada?

Hi, me and my boyfriend are thinking about moving to Canada from UK in a year. I wanted to get study visa there, so I should be ok. But my boyfriend works as a menager in one of the UK companies and he does not know how his options are? He also has a bachelors in one of the irrelevant to his profession courses.

Where could I find more help about out specific case?

How long have you been together and can you prove it. That's what matters. If you're not married you can still get a visa for a partner if you are the one studying abroad. Call the Canadian embassy, im sure they're nice 😉

I hope this still applies! My sister went thru this about 6 years ago. So typically you'll have to have been together for a significant amount of time (nothing crazy but not like 1 year either). I know my sis and her bf were 7 years strong at the time. For proof of relationship they used pictures, email exchanges, bills (he owns a house and she helped with electrical and water so her name was on the statements). Thay also worked together so they asked their work to write a notarized letter. If they still allow this -which i really hope for your sake they do (sorry if i got your hopes up for nothing) - they will tell you what works as "documentation" of your relationship. I really think your best bet is contacting the consulate.

Also, just thinking about it...if you cant get your visas "together" see if he cant just get one seperately. I honestly would just do whatever is easiest and they will let you know what your options are. There is all the clntact info youll need on the website.

Thank you, means a lot. As a next step I will try tocontact embassy but once I will get all information I need I will definitely need some of your help to get an insight how the life in Canada looks like.

Not the exact same situation here, but i immigrated to the UK from the US a few years ago now and here's some general tips:

  • if you can, find a good immigration lawyer/solicitor to help you all the way through, they know all of the ins and outs of the process, so all you guys will have to do is collect documents, payment, ect
  • if you've got a personal connection in Canada, ask if they can help sponsor/vouch for you guys, since it's another way of the gov knowing that youve got good character

And of course check Canada's government website! 👍

Word of advise. Don’t use any brokers and people asking you for money for the paperwork or any other process. Don’t pay anyone any advance. Don’t send information of any kind to a person we call immigration agents.

CIC.GC.CA is pretty straight forward.

Get admission , get enrolment letter, apply for visa be a student and come to Canada. When you get a student visa you can also apply for dependent visa as well ( doesn’t matter if you are there or here and your boyfriend can come with you or can Come later date)

It’s not that hard. It’s not that complicated. Don’t pay any dollars to anyone to make your life more complicated.

I went through this by myself long time ago. Processes have not become complicated. They have evolved and became streamlined and easy. Wish you all the best.

TLDR : say no to brokers, so called “immigration specialist” call CIC and your school directly.

Are you under 35?

That may give you more options e.g. Young Professional / Working Holiday visas for up to two years IIRC
