If you want it to be the new norm keep buying them at high prices. I stopped going to concerts years ago because I thought they were too high back then.

I only do small venues now. Smaller bands that try harder and better prices.

Any venue not associated with Ticketmaster. Reasonable prices and no service fees.

Ticket prices seem fine to me, at least for the bands I want to see. It's the fees that are ridiculous. They literally double the price of the ticket and for what? $75 is the most I've spent on a ticket before fees, every other concert I've been to has been cheaper, the majority being about half that. And for good (but not great) seats for The Black Keys with one of my favorite bands opening for them both times I saw them, so it's 2 for the price of 1, seems a fair price. It does have to suck to be a fan of some of the most popular artists though. If I wanted to see Beyonce instead of Reel Big Fish, I'd just never get to see the artist I like live.

Was it Band of Horses opening for them? Or who? I saw them recently

AllHailDanda t1_j9l3wy6 wrote

This second time I saw them it was Band Of Horses. The first time was Arctic Monkeys. I love The Black Keys too but both times I saw them the opening acts were the bigger draws for me.

Nice! Yep love AM and Band of Horses. I've seen black keys so many times but wow how they have grown as professional musicians from when I first saw them at Coachella. Dan is a beast on the 🎸 🏅

AllHailDanda t1_j9lv04r wrote

El Camino was about to come out when I first got to see them so they haven't grown all that much from then till now. But I can say they killed it both times. Dan is a beast and he was having a ball this last time in particular as on top of playing a ton of the hits they brought out some musicians that meant something to him and played Delta Kream in it's entirety in the middle of the set.

Insane prices are partially due to the effect of Napster all those years ago. I don’t even look at my royalty statements because they are so abysmal. I’m not making excuses for Ticketmaster or any of these fuckers especially the scalpers but it is a reality that most of us are making jack shit (.004 cents) off of song streams. Touring is the only Avenue for making any real money from tix and selling merch on those tours.

Pricing is not going to decrease. People keep buying tickets at the prices available and the venues are selling out.

SweetCosmicPope t1_j9knxy6 wrote

They're getting quite pricey. Even lower tier bands are going for $50 plus in a small venue, which not that long ago would get you floor seats at an arena.

I was surprised to see Garbage tickets going for $29.00 for the upcoming tour.

I paid around $80 for nosebleeds for Blink, and I was one of the lucky ones who didn't get boned by dynamic pricing.

I very rarely see stadium shows. It's harder to gouge prices for general admission.

Relative_Hyena7760 t1_j9kjhiz wrote

Yes. People are paying these prices so there is no incentive for artists to charge less.

momofsoccer t1_j9kynz5 wrote

artists don't choose the price, artist barely even make money from tickets, they make money through merch. so don't be mad at the band, be mad at ticketmaster/the venue they are playing in.

Relative_Hyena7760 t1_j9kz50z wrote

Artists most certainly have input on ticket prices. Also, I'm not mad at the band or TM; I think they'd be nuts not to charge as much as people are willing to pay.

Yes. I went to buy Duran Duran floor tickets and the cheapest were over $250. I’m not paying $500 to see anyone unless Elvis comes back from the dead and MJ is the opening act.

Complicated-HorseAss t1_j9ku2ny wrote

Was this recent? Duran Duran literally played a free concert in my city 2 years ago and like no one showed up.

It’s horrible! And the fees are outrageous as well. I think dynamic pricing and an overabundance of resellers are two of the big problems plaguing us ticket buyers.

For big bands/big venues, yeah, I think it's the norm. I've seen a bunch of smaller groups in medium/small venues recently and paid reasonable prices, though. I'm going to a show in April and paid $20 for GA tickets.

Deftones tickets from the 2016 tour to the 2022 tour went up like $20 before fees for the same seats at the same venue. Never thought I’d see $100+ for them but that light rig couldn’t have been cheap to haul around or design.

Far-Space2949 t1_j9l9afb wrote

Yeah, until an alternative opens up… that said if you seek them out there are so many amazing artists in that next tier down, the up and comers in so many genres, tickets are frequently cheap, they’re hungry and put on the best shows, so throw your entertainment dollar at people who need it the most!

tonetonitony t1_j9kjrha wrote

The prices rose with inflation, and more importantly there have been obscene price hikes for touring industry expenses in particular. There’s actually a good chance prices will go down once these things subside. Over the past year, tons of the concerts I went to didn’t sell out and their tickets were selling well below face on Stubhub. Artists don’t want empty seats at their shows and they’ll price their tickets accordingly.

The fact that I am getting two shows for Metallica compared to me trying to get tickets for blink. Which were running around 100 bucks at the time during their botched presale rip off prices.mind u I payed 40 bucks more for 2 SHOWS for Metallica compared to 100 for 1 show for blink that I said no thank u to lol

tonetonitony t1_j9kyvgw wrote

Well Blink was a special case given that is was a reunion gig for a really popular band. That's not to say their prices weren't incredibly greedy.
