100% agreed! The park is almost always empty. These events actually bring life to the park

Ah the time of year where we lose half the park to a rickety chain link fence

Newark and mismanaging park space is as iconic of a duo as you can imagine

How is creating a winter ice skating spot mismanagement?

Enclosing it in a shitty chain looking fence so only people who pay to use it, effectively cutting off half the park to the public

Nice to see though. People seemed to enjoy it, and at least something is happening at the park...still don't get how quickly these nice parks with cool little amentities, become absolutely desolate and not maintained.

I did this last year with my gf and daughter and it was actually a lot of fun (and I'm a terrible skater). The kids have a great time & some of the folks are talented skaters. There's also something cool about being able to walk to a rink and skate among the high rises of Newark.
People complaining about this need to take a happy pill -- and a reality check. I go to Mulberry Commons with some regularity and it's usually nearly empty. The idea that having the winter village is denying people use of the space is laughable.
