There’s a Doctor Who episode where Van Gogh finds out he became one of the most celebrated painters of all time. Too bad it’s just science fiction. In reality, the man never got the recognition he deserved in his lifetime.

Vincent Van Gogh was born on this day in 1853. 37 years later and his final days in Auvers-sur-Oise are still a bit mysterious. Whilst it's generally believed the gunshot to the chest was self-inflicted, there's a compelling argument it may have been an accident involving local children instead.
I'd link to the article here but unfortunately this subreddit doesn't allow it.
