This happens everywhere, definitely not exclusive to the turnpike.

Indeed. Could insert any road in this lovely state and beyond and the title would be appropriate.

You can extend it well past the state. Some people suck. It’s not exclusive to Pennsylvania

That means you are going too slow in the fast lane. Stop camping in the passing lane.

Always hated that on the turnpike. One jackass doing 66 trying to pass another jackass doing 65 all in a 70.

i absolutely do NOT take the turnpike unless i have to, my boyfriend and his parents drove to maryland from new york this past fall for thanksgiving, i met them in maryland with my family as well since it was kind of a get-together (my boyfriend & i are long distance) and they almost got into an accident at least 10 times on the way!

I've found people in BMW and VW are especially bad with that; seem to think they're on the Autobahn, although probably were never in Germany except on a Viking tour.

i drive an older mustang that sits very low and jesus christ, this but when a semi is behind me! literally ANY truck rides my ass until i let them pass… i always chalked it up to “maybe they can’t see me” but my car is a very bright color 🤣

a truck driver almost side swept me not too long ago and luckily no one was really all the way up on my ass behind me or else that would’ve gotten very ugly.

Truck drivers have not been Knights of the road for years.

18wheelapartment t1_jdlcauk wrote

Unfortunately it’s because the trucks are set at a maximum speed (65-75) and we have to be somewhere “yesterday”, because someone in an office planed using google maps that estimates travel times based on what a car can do. Also weight is a factor which is why trucks can slow way down on an uphill and get faster on the downhill. And we need every mph we can squeeze out of a 5-8-11 hour trip because our bosses demand it.

Which is why, screen name aside, I’m not doing it anymore.

Yea dude. You're right. Road rage is always totally justified and rational.

So many left-lane campers between Quakertown and the Tunnel in particular. Fn annoying.

Yeah, I drive across the state pretty frequently and have absolutely noticed the asshat meter goes off the chart the closer you get to the Philly areas of the turnpike.

can confirm, i’m near the exton area and the amount of accidents on the 30 bypass is RIDICULOUS!

Definitely not exclusive to the turn pike… Pennsylvania in general has a driving attitude issue.

I will give our state credit though in that we do tend to let others pass us or move over from the passing lane so that others can pass. New Jersey, New York and Maryland, folks act like they own the left lane.

Probably more so since the fee is egregious

If people don't want to pay the tolls, they don't have to take the turnpike. No one's forcing them to.

Found the boot licker. How about the turnpike commission release what all those fees are going to since they fired all the toll booth workers.

You people have some bizarre brain damage when it comes to the turnpike. You aren't owed free / cheap roads everywhere. If you don't like what the product costs, don't buy it.

Er3bus13 t1_jdcq2x8 wrote

It's a road that bisects the whole state. It was also paid for by national funds. You know they same nation we pay taxes into. I just want the money we are paying in for gas taxes to actually pay for the roads. Second highest in the nation. But yea my priorities are fucked I reckon https://www.statista.com/statistics/509649/us-states-with-highest-gas-tax-and-prices/#:~:text=California%20has%20the%20highest%20tax,14%20U.S.%20cents%20in%202021.

Gas tax money doesn't go towards the turnpike. They're entirely separate from PennDOT.

Lol... imagine if the money COULD go towards things we use. Its ok bud boil that boot. I'm sure it'll get tender soon.

The Turnpike is self-supporting. Your tax dollars don't go towards it. Quit crying about it already.

Did you pass quickly? If not, that may have upset the driver. Not justifying their action, but is a possibility to consider. As for why people are extra aggressive on the TP could be the insanely high tolls. Feeling entitled to drive fast without anyone in their way. Don't know, but could see some having that mindset.

Personally, I steer clear of the TP whenever possible. Cost is nuts and people drive crazy. Also, the trucks with their speed limiters that can result in prolonged passing while blocking both lanes.

3-lanes not only increases capacity, also reduces the instances of blockades which leads to driver frustration. Wish all major highways were 3-lanes all the way. Blue Route is an example of the difference it makes. The upper section flows moderately well, but below milepost 9 where it's two lanes (was originally to be 3 all the way, but was strong public opposition), traffic and aggression increases.

Let’s say someone is going 65 and I’ve got my cruise set at 70 and im gently creeping up and want to pass.

When I do pass I’m bumping it to 75-80 until I’m well out in front where I change lanes then slowly allow cruise to take over without breaking and reestablishing the speed I was going.

I usually then get passed by that person within miles.

Pick a motherfucking speed!!!!

Dodge Charger? Not sure if that or unnecessarily large trucks attracts a smaller dick.

I had someone freak out at me for not going faster in the fast lane... I would but there was ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF ME.

It doesnt do you any good to tailgate me. If I speed up, im going to hit grandma going 60 in the fast lane. Get mad at grandma, not me.

Northeast extension is another world. My wife refuses to drive that on our frequent trips to Jersey. I suggest she wear a blindfold, she plays games on her phone instead. I usually let my evil twin drive that section! I never rage or tailgate, but if you aren’t a little aggressive, it’s a nightmare from hell.

Nah, road rage is always the same. One person wants to drive one way, another person drives another way and they both escalate it, sometimes subtly and say "I didn't do anything!"

Here's some tips.

Do not use the fast lane as a travel lane. If you're passing a line of cars then think "I'll just stay in this lane and pass those cars 1/4 mile up there too" that's incorrect, especially if anyone is behind you. You pass and you get out of the fast lane immediately.

Do not beep.

Do not rudely gesture.

Do not aggressively drive, like braking unnecessarily or jerking your steering wheel to intimidate.

Do not flash your lights or keep high beams on.

Drive the speed limit in travel lanes.

Do not try to merge when no one is allowing you to. You WILL miss your exit, or you WILL wait and yield and you WILL just deal with it.

When you're driving, become a tranquil cow on a beautiful pasture that's being milked by a farmer with soft hands.

Keep your ego at your destinations. If someone does something to you, let it go, immediately.

It's a great recipe to sharply reduce any kind of confrontation.
