I remember going to Hechinger all the time with my dad when I was a kid. I still find random older things around his house with their price tag.

Let's reminisce about Hill's department store, that was bought out by Ames also.
I knew Ames wasn't going to last. They picked up a load for western PA, the next week the trailer hit my dock, with the load still in the nose. They had a second order that we added behind the first load. No idea when they would get the product on store shelves, but you cannot have a supply chain that does get merchandise of the store shelves ASAP.

As a kid my mom would take me to the one in Hazleton specifically to get me M.U.S.C.L.E. men.

There use to be a Jamesway in Franklin PA what use to be a Quality Farm and Fleet as well for a few years after Jamesway went out. Most of the building there is still empty except for a sliver of building which has been A and C Chinese and Asian buffet restaurant now for 17 years. I remember Ames as well out at the cranberry mall where a Hills department store once was.

I do remember both, like a shittier Kmart Jamesway was

The Jamesway store in Beaver Falls was hit by the 1985 tornado

I still remember this from my childhood. My friend told me his dad went after the tornado and loaded his car up with “free stuff” that had been blown out of the store. I didn’t realize until I was older that his dad was a thieving looting asshole.

There was one about 10 miles away from where I live. It closed in the late 90's. Then it was a recreational entertainment/sports place (idk what to call it, it had trampolines and rock climbing walls), then it was a Church assembly hall, then it was a skate park, now it's been closed for almost 20 years.
Yes, it was all that crap in the span of about 5 years.

I remember that, they had local WWE wannabe wrestling matches and things in there for a while, building still stands...empty. That entire shopping center is pretty much dead today other than the beer store and grocery store.
FyrestarOmega t1_j003sif wrote
We had one of each locally. The Jamesway was turned into a local grocery store and the ames building changed hands a few times before becoming the Aldi it is now. What I remember from them are price stickers, the last stores I remember before shopping was entirely computerized. Iirc, they died around the time we got a walmart
