Got a speeding ticket, unclear if points will go on license

I’m from Pittsburgh, born and raised. I’ve lived in VA for two years now and spent the last few days with family in PA and this morning I was on my way back home to VA.

I took my normal route back home where I get on the turnpike (closest to Monroeville) and I’m on I-70 for 105 miles. I got caught speeding in the 55mph construction zone and got a ticket for $155.

I have a VA license and my car is registered in VA. While the cop was calm and nice, he confused me a little with explaining whether or not I’d get points on my license.

I am going to plead guilty and pay the ticket online, but I was wondering whether or not I’ll get points on my license and what would happen from there? Thanks in advance!

Plead not guilty , talk to the cop before the hearing ask him to amend the ticket to where there is no points , happens all the time . Speeding tickets carry points 5 mph above posted speed , so 60 in a 55 , no points . 61 in a 55 = points .

And depending upon the impact of the ticket on insurance premiums, it might be worth hiring a ticket lawyer. I’m in the profession and I’ve done it. A fee of a few hundred bucks saved me a lot of hassle and modest insurance expense.

Always plead not guilty, and you also have the right to reschedule the hearing the hearing, and if it gets rescheduled to when the officer isn’t on the clock, the chances of him appearing are slim to none and the charges will be dropped

Unless the cop didn’t charge you points. If you are pleasant and cooperative many cops will charge you a fine (depending upon how fast you were speeding) and may not charge you any points. This will be on the ticket. So check it out first.

With a Pennsylvania license, points depend on the section of vehicle code you were charged with. In speeding violations, points are "sliding". Virginia law may or may not consider an out of state violation for points. For sure don't ignore the ticket, as the two states are reciprocal in suspending no pays. I've received tickets in other states and paid them to no effect on my Pennsylvania driving record. If you don't get ticketed regularly, it's not worth worrying about, just plead guilty and pay it.

NEVER plea guilty. Take it to magistrate. Chances are the cop won’t show & the ticket will be dismissed. Especially if it’s a larger municipality. Don’t even try & solict legal advice from cops. They don’t know the laws well.
