Wait...what?! Australia? Protecting the environment?

They finally voted the conservative fossil fuel shills out of office and now there's a flood of environmental laws going through. And all it took was devastating wildfires and huge reductions in wildlife populations.

Impatiently waiting for this to happen in the US…

Our voting system is a lot less screwy than theirs, so you're probably going to be waiting for a while.

Ours is still a bit screwy, but less than them.

Is ours not more screwy with gerrymandering? In what way do you mean less screwy? Genuine question, please don’t get mad :)

We've both got that but American gerrymandering is an art form.

They've got the electoral college, but their winner take all system basically excludes realistic third parties.

I don't get how people cant respect things for their natural beauty and put aside the thought of the money they could make, stupid of them to even try putting a coal mine there.

The conservatives are always banging on about "unAustralian this" and "unAustralian that" but then have no issues destroying the Australian environment. The Australian national anthem is literally and ode to its natural beauty.

The state of coal mining companies in Australia is so fucked that not building a coal mine that would affect our already destroyed reef is uplifting news. Fuck Clive palmer, fuck Rio Tinto, fuck Adani. It's fucked up but I'm pleasantly surprised that they put a stop to this one. I hope this becomes a precedent for future mining projects

Did anyone else read this as 'Coral mine' at first?

Ha! But great news!

Have you ever notice how China is building polluting military bases on top of pristine coral reefs in the South China Sea?

Be wary, this is billionaire tax evader Clive Trump Palmer, he'll sue, go through the courts till he gets what he wants.
