This is awesome, downloaded! As a Vancouver, WA resident. Any chance you could Oregon also?!

Btw: supporting multiple states can be a paid feature. Think about thus

Hey, making an Android version on java/kotlin might be right up my students alley for development.
We might make one anyway just to have as a project.

Here's a vote for the Android version - I live in Oregon but hike in Washington about twice a month and this would be amazing
Stabbymcappleton t1_j8toojt wrote
Just FYI: If someone gets mashed up or there’s something else exciting, WSDOT will turn the cameras away.

What kind of coding do you do? (I don’t know anything about coding)

This is really great! I just gave it a go on a drive I make most weekends.
Some suggestions, but please know this is already excellent. I’m just giving these in case you like to tweak things.
Have larger areas of the map load instead of needing to move the map, then hit the button to load cameras for that area. It’s a bit cumbersome, but might be unavoidable? I needed to know where the cameras were in order load them on the map. Not the best for people who don’t know an area well.
Oregon would be helpful too as others have said. We have a lot of crossover on the border. Washington is better though.
Perhaps have pre selected major routes that someone can tap and get multiple cameras. Just a nice to have for quickly getting info for major routes.
One of the best feature is me being able to build my own routes! That is super helpful for those of us in rural areas. So really nicely done! Please don’t take offense to these suggestions, just food for thought on an already excellent app.

Wow thank you for the great feedback! I have a 6mo old son that’s taking most of my time right now but if I get a little time I’ll do my best to implement some of your suggestions. Thank you!
Anaxamenes t1_j8sns1a wrote
It’s very well put together already. You could keep it the way it is and have it be a really useful tool for many people. It shows you put a lot of care and thought into it.

u/skifever, I'm looking to add some projects to my UX research portfolio. If you want me to conduct some usability tests, please PM me and I can gather the feedback for you. That way you don't have to sort through suggestions yourself. I'm happy to do this before you start Android development! :)
But looking at this, u/wsdot, you really should think about hiring this person.

We're always looking to hire great people. But they actually have to apply and want to work here. ...

Can you do this for Idaho or Oregon? I drive to Boise frequently and it’s a nightmare trying to check road conditions in 3 different states
OceanPoet87 t1_j8t1sqo wrote
Agreed. Idaho would be nice too since most communities in far EWA are twinned with cities on the Idaho side.

Only futzing around with it for a few minutes but already this is fantastic. I’ve always loved the idea of using the DOT cams for various reasons (traffic, weather conditions, etc) but digging down into the website and clicking each wasn’t worth it. Having them all collected into groups like this is awesome.
And now the nitpick. What’s with the “Made in Colorado” at the start? State agency couldn’t contract this out to some local devs?
skifever OP t1_j8uxxcz wrote
Great to hear you find the app useful =]
However my app is not in any way affiliated or sponsored by WSDOT. It says made in Colorado because I live in CO. I’m a solo developer.
inkswamp t1_j8v1gi8 wrote
Oh haha! I guess I assumed it was official WSDOT because of the name.

There are so many cameras missing!
I’ve had the “other”WSDOT app (the one with the traffic map, ferry info, mountain passes, border waits) for years and was just looking at the traffic map and all the cameras. Maybe this one is just using DOT cameras and not City or county cameras.
skifever OP t1_j8u80n8 wrote
The app currently has the WSDOT and Seattle DOT city cams. I’m working on adding more city cams because of feedback I received on this post. Please send a link to the cameras you are referring to and I’ll do my best to add them to the app. Thanks.
anybodyiwant2be t1_j8ubkne wrote
Not sure how to send the “link”…I took a couple screen shots of 405@520 but if you have the “other” WSDOT app you can go to the traffic map and then zoom in on this area. There are so many cameras right at that interchange they just put a number in a circle and you don’t see the camera icons until you zoom in closer
I tried sending the screen shots via Reddit messaging but they fail to send (or you just got them 5 times, lol)

FYI I’m a solo developer and the app is free, has no ads, and does not collect any data.
If the app receives enough positive feedback, I have a friend that may make the Android version.
