Or maybe, if you are lost, it can be easier to ask a friendly hiker that can give a quick answer as opposed to spending time looking at a map? I am not arguing against being prepared on a hike, but offering a less pessimistic take
Sometimes a little human connection asking a question is nice. And there have been times where even if I have my map, I just want to double check with someone.
Today I was on a 7 mile trail. I don’t mean to come off like an ass at all, more from the angle of I don’t want anyone to get lost out there. I’m not saying you need 3 days of rations for a 3 hour hike, but idk the bare minimum should be knowing where you’re going.
I was doing the Tahoe Rim Trail and I was three miles from a trail head in SLT I found a very pregnant lady wondering the trail. I walked her back to the trailhead where she had wondered from the resort
