Hi all, just relocated to Worcester from NH and am about to switch over auto insurance. My monthly rate is going to go up over $100+ (no accidents, tickets- ever). I am obviously getting protection from UNinsured drivers but progressive is recommending that I waive UNDERinsured collision protection? Does that seem right? You’d think they’d want you to be covered in both but to be honest, I didn’t know there was a difference. Any insight would be appreciated!! Thanks

If you're living in Worcester keep underinsured as the state minimum is 20/40 for BI. You're paying more for an increase in garaging.

Yeah. I use Travellers through DCU and it's a separate line in my policy. $8 a year. Why not at that rate?

If you're wondering about the rates, Massachusetts does allow insurance providers to factor in risk based on the town or city the car is parked in. Worcester is rated high risk. My insurance doubled when I moved to Worcester from elsewhere in MA.

Really? We have Progressive and pay about $750/year for two drivers on two vehicles. We moved from NH years ago, but had Allstate which was ridiculous at about $1200/year. I'd ask why Progressive rates are so high for you.

I should add, we get a small discount for having our house insurance with them as well, but I think it's only $80/year.

Unfortunately I purchased a new Lexus within the last year which is probably why the rate is high. Ended up being around 600/6 mons which is in line I suppose. Appreciate your info and response!

Massachusetts has a minimum coverage rates for everything.

Unless you have an exotic car or plan on driving in New York you should probably listen to them.

If you plan on driving in New York for regular visits, you should definitely upgrade your bodily injury coverage. People get sued in New York all the time.
