I opened the door and promptly shut it behind me. One fluid motion. A cold waft of air pillowed my entry, just as I liked it. The room was messy and in a state of disrepair. Abandonded buildings look cleaner than this.

I sighed to myself, and haphazardly kicked away some items on the floor. Just to make a path. Charger brick, a single shoe which will forever lack it's mate, and... Whatever that is...

I laid down on the bed, small, but big enough.

I pulled out my phone and clicked onto Spotify. Something about it's little green icon always hung in my thoughts, not sure why. Then I scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled. Finally I found something good, a real classic from the edgelord days.

I swipped off the app. Stared at my wallpaper. Just let the emotions and nostalgia consume me.

I sighed and opened Docs, figure I'll write a bit tonight.

I mouthed along the lyrics as I typed mindlessly, unaware and isolated from my surroundings. I took on my protagonists struggles, and forgot my own. Wasn't worried about keeping up with the homework I'd procrastinated on, just keeping my fictional kid alive. Wasn't thinking about tomorrow, just a fake today.

The song changed in the background, flipping genres and tempo. Breakcore into Industrial. J-pop into droning ambient tracks. Game OST's into classical music. It was comforting.

Maybe people don't know me, but this amalgamation of songs and tracks does. It's my confidant.

Then a song came on, the music tense and oppressive, lyrics indecipherable. I'd know that song anywhere! A small well of happiness appeared inside me, but I quickly smothered it.

Keep the real world out of the story.

I felt inspired by the oppressive track, so I wrote a new scene idea. It's gotta be a demon summoning, with latin chanting this intense? Hmm, make the location... tough choice... A mall? Group of highschool delinquents? Nah, over done...

Hm... Airplane? Nah, sounds stupid...

The song reached a crescendo, the singer belting their entire life in a rage fueled voice. I assume. I was touched by it enough to actually attempt to follow along.

"Daemoniorum convocatio! Lingua antiqua!"

A bright flash of light, followed by a flash of heat. It writhed my nerves and ripped my mind to shreds. I nearly forgot who I was in that instant. Then it left, quick as it had came.

I stared at the ceiling quietly. The music had shut off. I glanced at my phone, the now playing track simply listed "????". It betrayed me! My music went and betrayed me! How is that even possible?!

I exhaled in the still darkness of the room.

Something exhaled along with me.

I shot up, my hand already firmly holding the knife I keep beside my bed. A thing was standing at my footrest. Quiet. Immobile. I couldn't make out it's form, but something in my gut told me I didn't want to.

I was scared. I haven't been that for who knows how long, but I was now.

"Why have you summoned me?" It's tone was... something... I couldn't understand it's emotion, or if it was even trying to convey one. Two tiny dots of blue fire endlessly turned on themselves, glaring at me.

I forced my voice to speak. But it faltered. Only a quiet noise escaped my lips.

"The Old Tongue..." It croaked out, sounding like it was on the verge of death, "...es wird vermieden."

"W-Who are you?" I managed to force out.

"Incomprehensibilis... Frustra..." It titled it's head, and several cracks echoed from it's neck.

"What are you!?" I yelled at it, fear turning to rage. Fight or Flight response finally kicking in.

"Mors... ይልቁንም, ተመሳሳይ የሆነ ነገር"

It glanced around the room, the unsettling cracking forcing me to not blink.

Then it turned it's gaze to me, "ይቅርታ፣ የነቃህው ፍጥረት እየመጣ ነው።"

It looked around again. Another bright flash, this one infinitely more bearable than the first.

It was gone.

Some random song from my playlist was blaring now.

It did nothing to comfort me.

It had a terrifying form and its eyes were blazing, but it spoke in a voice that was oddly soothing, like a lullaby.

"You called me here, so tell me: What do you wish for?" it said.

I was so scared that I couldn't even speak, but then I remembered that I had been wishing for something before the demon appeared.

"I wish for a world free of suffering," I whispered.

The demon smiled, and for a moment I thought everything would be okay, but then it said, "Your wish has been granted. But, as you wished, so did I. Now there is no suffering in the world, but there is also no joy, no love, and no hope."

The demon disappeared, and I was left in a world without emotion, without hope.

The demon frowns. "Why did you call me in the tongue of old? You must have known the consequences of such a deed."
You shake your head, still in shock. You had no idea what you had done. You try to explain that you were just singing along to a song in a language you didn't understand, but the demon doesn't seem to believe you.
Suddenly, a voice speaks from behind you. "I summoned you here," it says. You turn to see an old man standing in the corner of your room. He looks familiar, although you can't quite place where you know him from.
"This is my grandson," he continues, "and I asked him to call upon you in the old language because I knew it would be the only way to get you to grant my wish. I know it was wrong of me, but I was desperate."
The old man explains that he is dying and wants to see his family one last time. He can't leave his home, so he needs the demon's help to bring his family to him.
The demon listens to the old man's story and agrees to help him. He tells you to bid farewell to the old man, and then disappears in a puff of smoke.
You stand there in shock, wondering what just happened. You had accidentally summoned a demon, and he had granted an old man's wish. You shake your head in disbelief and take a few moments to let it all sink in. You then take a deep breath and put your headphones back on.
You smile to yourself as a new song in a language you don't understand comes on. You laugh as you mumble along and think about the strange events that just occurred.

I dropped my backpack on the chest near the window, staring out it as I watched the locals walking by, and glancing at the woodland beyond. Wishing I had enough strength to be able to leave this sleepy little town. instead, I grab my headphones off my desk and slid them on and tap the passcode on my phone and open a music app and open it. it gave me a recommended music list so I pressed it and without even reading through which songs that were selected I let the music blast through my headphones filling my eardrums. I threw myself on my bed and glanced at my door, surely my mom wouldn’t be home from her book club for another hour.

I know being a twenty-year-old still living at home, don’t judge. Slowly I slid my hand under my mattress and pulled out a photograph I had of the girl I had a crush on. Gwen, she’s now our local journalist, I read every article she writes, whether it’s about the mysterious disappearances of kids, the strange animals that come out and greet locals, or the cutest animals people own. I read every one, it makes me feel closer to her, I never got to tell her in high school how I felt, now here I am an adult still pinning away for her.

Suddenly the music in headphones shifted into the next song, I gave pause as I listened to it more intently than before. it was in a different language, but the beat of it was still enticing, as I listened to it, I started to sing along with it, after hearing the verse of it, I started getting into it. I reached for my phone when suddenly in the middle of my room a burst of flames ignited and shot up to my ceiling, my jaw dropped, I was in shock, and I was ready to leap off my bed to the window, but as the flames died down. A creature stood there, slowly I pulled my headphones down around my neck, a man who stood at least six feet tall, I wouldn’t say man. But his posture was one, his black horns jutted out of his head on either side lining up with his dark eyebrows. His skin a dark blue, as if he was doused in blue ink, his glowing red eyes stared me down. He wore a suit only tailored to those who had money and flaunt it.

“Who dare summon me in the tongue of the old?” the demon growled showing his long canine fangs as his brows furrowed and his eyes narrowed on me.

“I . . . Uh . . .” I swallowed in my now dry throat. “didn’t mean too…” I managed to speak.

He rolled his eyes, “ah I see, a mistake? Perhaps you are tricking me, humans are tricksters. Tell me boy, why summon me here today? do you wish to make a trade for your soul?”

My voice wouldn’t come out, I was far too surprised to even respond to him. I had a demon in my room. an effing demon! And I summoned him? how? All these questions swirled in my head, what could I say? oops? My bad?

But before I could respond, one of the photos on my bed floated towards him, I tried to catch the photos, but it landed in his clawed hands. He cocked an eyebrow and stared at the photo I had taken of her, he snorted. “Is this what you want? her?”

I felt my entire face burn, “no! I don’t know how you got here, just give that back to me.” I reached for it, and he disappeared and reappeared behind me and there was a knowing smirk on his dark lips.

“Well, that is one thing I can’t do, I do not bring the dead back nor do I make others fall in love, not anymore. But what I could do is—” he looked me up and down. “Make you look slightly better so she can notice you.”

“Hey! I’m not that bad looking.” I cleared my throat. I ran my hand through my short black hair, “I’m not selling my soul to a demon to look better. not saying I don’t—”

“Boring, are humans as boring as you. You never answered my questions, boy.”

I shrugged and picked up my phone and scrolled through the playlist on my phone and found the song and held it out to him. “I heard this song and so I just sang to it.”

The demon stared at it with contempt. “Interesting . . .”

“What? You think someone purposely made this song so someone would summon you,” I don’t know how I am coping with talking with a demon that I accidently summoned.

He set the photograph on my bed and narrowed his eyes on me. “Well perhaps do not sing with a song you have no idea what it is. not only was I summoned, but you sang a bond.”

What? “Excuse me? a bond?”

With a snap of his fingers, he no longer looked demonic, but rather a normal human. He had blue eyes and blonde hair, still wearing a suit, he looked better than I did. demon or human. He straightened out his cuffs. “Well, unfortunately you summoned me and bound yourself to me. we are going to be together for a while until we can find away to break the bounds you created accidently. Until then, I can grant you anything you desire, I have stipulated rules you must follow. I don’t bring the dead back, nasty business in that. I do not make others fall in love, only turns sour like milk. I don’t make people into slaves, other than that, I am yours. Even though it gulls me to my core.”

My head felt slightly lightheaded, I had a genie, well a demon to grant any wish I want. “You’re kidding?” I backed up.

“Not in the least, you sang the song, not my fault that you sang the words of summoning and bonding to thy self.”

My eye twitches. “Well, this is going to be interesting…” I mumbled as he smiled his fanged smile at me.

Samantha, Sam for short, was drawing on her iPad and listening to random songs when an interesting sound caught her attention. She stopped what she was doing to quietly sing the song as best she could. The beat got her bobbing her head and tapping her fingers along. She was having a blast listening to this unknown song.

Flames burst behind her. Sam, not knowing what to do, stood up knocking down her chair. She was about to run from the flames, thinking up her next move. She has never been in a fire before. Never even imagined it.

Out of the fire came a demon of sorts. "Who dare summon me in the tongue of the old!?" He demanded.

Shocked Sam knew not what to do. She had never summoned a demon before. She has heard of such things but this seemed different. How was she supposed to know the song would summon the beast?

"Speak now child or else!" He sneered her way. He was impatient that's for sure.

"What's your name?" She mumbled without thinking. Sam knew what a demon was as her mother always forbid her from learning such things. Saying things like "it will steal your soul" and "you will never see the light of day" like Sam was naive. Albeit she was, as she was an ordinary child like everyone else.

"My name? you ask? How dare you!" The demon almost looked offended by what she asked. The poor child knew no better. "I'll ask again! Who dares summon me?"

"Sam... M-my name is Sam." She says stumbling over her words. The demon scared her, but she was too curious about him. Why was he here? Did the song really summon him? She would wonder.

"Sam... Is it short for something? I've never heard such a name." He says curiously.

"Yes... Uh, Samantha... It's short for Samantha." She says looking the demon up and down. Sam liked the red-skinned demon. She thought it suit him as red was her favorite color. "What should I call you?"

"Call me? I, the great demon, shall not be anything! No human shall know my name!" He boasted.

"How can I understand you?" Sam curiously asked as her fear slipped away.

The demon said nothing as he was stuck thinking. He was stunned he didn't know the answer. He, the great demon, did not know.

"How dare a human ask such a question! Don't you know manners?" The demon shouted at the little lady in front of him. Her eyes shimmered with curiosity. He could tell she was pure as snow. Those hopeful eyes, the curiosity, the fire in her soul. He wanted it all. "What do you wish for, human?"

"Wish? Me?" Sam asked confused. What kind of wish was the demon talking about? Was he going to steal her soul like her mother always told her?

"Yes, you who else would I be talking to?" The demon asked annoyed. "I will grant you any wish you want, but only one. No more." The demon continued softly.

"A wish. Any? I've never thought of one," She said innocently. "Will you take my soul?"

The demon now shocked didn't know what to say. How did a human know such things? There was no way for them to know. It's part of the contract. "Yes, for your soul. A wish will be granted as long as I get your soul once you die." He says calmly.

His calmness scared Sam. "Will you kill me?" She asked wide-eyed.

"If you wish it." He says simply.

"I do." She says not even thinking. It was true. Sam always wanted her life to end. She wanted a peaceful death, not one that would hurt. If this demon would kill her swiftly and stay by her side, then she was willing to die. She always wanted a companion by her side, especially in death. She learned that no matter who you met, you could never be too sure they would stay by your side as death takes you.

"Is that what you wish?" The demon asked getting closer to her.

"Yes," she whispers, looking the demon in the eyes. He was all so calm, it kept her calm. How could a demon be so sweet, if they were such horrible beings?

"Then I shall grant it." He says swiftly taking Sam's soul out of her body, in one move of his hand. She didn't feel a thing.

The demon held Sam's hand as he took her down the hole in the floor. He was going to take her soul back to his place, with all the others. Sam's soul would make a nice collection. The start of the best collection. The demon was excited about the new adventures.

"Will you stay by my side?" Sam asks floating with the demon.

"For now and forever." The demon says.
