So what you're saying is that a person could literally smell the bulbs deteriorating before any other noticeable deterioration actually happens?
Would this be like me bringing the milk out of the fridge and leaving it on the counter and with less than a minute start to smell it going bad?

Are photocopiers not meant to smell like that? I kind of like the funky smell, I just thought it was normal for those machines.

OP is not talking about photocopiers. Ink and UV light to cure wett ink is a different printing tech than what you'd typically see in an office photocopier.
That being said xerographic printers (laser printer), typically found in office settings, generate ozone as part of the process. Ozone has always been that "copy machine" smell to me.

Its the smell of fresh rain specially that this study refers to. Not just water. But, the evolutionary advantage of being able.to smell rain on the wind, could have been very successful.

More specifically, the smell of fresh rain isn't water, but rather some chemical that's released from the soil.

Being able to smell fresh rainfall must have been pretty useful in the dry environments humans evolved in. Bonus fact, geosmin is produced by soil bacteria to attract tiny insects called springtails to eat them and spread their spores. But it also attracts us!

We can see signs of water much easier and longer than we can smell them. Just look at the ground, maybe scratch away the dry dirt on top.
