It honestly should be something touristy as much as it pains me to say, but also that shows off the city and lets city-based businesses more easily engage with tourists. National mall and boardwalk chains just ain’t it. They could also try to do a farmers market there or on McKeldon Plaza

Just spitballing but took a look at other cities with a Bay and I quite liked San Francisco’s “Ferry Building,” and I think if the city added a water taxi stop directly at the inner harbor that could be an attractive option for both tourists and residents alike to get between Harbor East/Fells and Downtown. And it’d add on to Baltimore’s heritage of markets! Could incorporate a park in some way, and maybe some housing. But most of all, you should be able to see the water from Pratt Street and McKeldin Plaza should actually become a gathering place than a glorified pedestrian island.

I submitted these ideas.

I feel that McKeldin Plaza should be joined to the mainland and no longer exist as an island.

I also think that light street is entirely too wide from key highway to Pratt and needs to be drastically narrowed.

Lol! Yeah I absolutely hate when people post paywalled sites when we are here to discuss things for free.

I’ll email this suggestion if commenting isn’t enough, but I think Baltimore should legitimately aim to mimic the V&A waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa. I was there in 2020 and all I could keep thinking was how cool it was, even though it was fairly touristy, and how great the Inner harbor would be if it mimicked the style. It acts as an area that obviously aims to attract a lot of tourists but is also not so overly touristy that the local community can also enjoy it. Idk if there’s a way to study another cities successes like that, but I think it’s a great model to aim for

Just fyi, commenting here does nothing. You have to fill out the form at the link, or send an email.

It's in the title so it isn't a link. Just copy paste abby.zimmardi@thebaltimorebanner.com

In the article itself. Why would you think I'd confuse the title with an email link? 😒
