BARCS. Just keep checking in regularly and with the other shelters further out.

if you can travel a bit further, you can try shelters in the suburbs. I know Harford county Humane society has a pretty big shelter. PetSmart also has adoption days. also try petfinder.com

BARCS and all their satellite adoption sites (petco, etc) always have kittens! frequently their kittens are also in foster homes so you need to schedule a meeting. a kitten can also bond well with a cat close in age--don't discount a cat who's one or two years old, they've still got a ton of that kitten energy! BARCS is also overcrowded right now so they are waiving adoption fees through the weekend, and all of their animals are vetted and spayed before going up for adoption. it is admittedly harder this time of year--"kitten season" is in the spring-summer, and slows down as it gets colder.

Yes, kittens go fast! MDSPCA has online adoption portals so check there everyday and apply online asap. It’s not “kitten season” right now so there are less kittens in general. You’ll have more options in late spring-early fall. Also consider getting a kitten that is slightly older, or even a young adult cat. Promise they are just as fun and you can avoid the stage where they are tiny demons with endless energy :)

While I'd never go back for a dog, I'd seriously consider Bmore Humane out in Westminster. They have a TON of cat space, and when we were there to get our mess of a dog half of the cat cages were kittens at the time. Go there. Stalk their website, too.
