I would like a warning to tell me a publisher was so gutless and mealy-mouthed they'd put "unalive" in print.

It didn't say that in the book lol I put it on here because I didn't know if reddit would ban my post for saying it

Oh for godsake, you've gone above and beyond already! Way above and beyond. You can't manage other people's lives. The planet overflows with danger and unpleasantness and its denizens need to get a grip and learn how to handle the negative or they can never hope to grow up and fully Become.

The individual taking you to task was a bit of a Karen.

Yeah I think maybe the reviewer ought to have read the list first. Thanks for your reply

Warning: This work contains inconvenient and uncomfortable situations, much like life. While it may be an escape from your problems it is not an escape from all problems, as that would make for a terribly boring story.

Yeah the story would be dull without the darker things. It's literally about a girl going evil idk how that could be nice and lighthearted

You will never do enough, that’s the point of people like that.

Research suggests that trigger warnings don’t work and can actually have adverse effects

Wow, I never knew there was such a thing. At most I would continue as is. As a reader I wouldn't read a trigger warning, adults should be able to handle it and parents should help their children decide if a book is okay for them.

Yeah there is apparently. It's a huge thing & I do get listing heavy topics e.g if a book had SA in it. But ive literally had to list mentions of anxiety, alcohol consumption etc etc and I have no idea where you're supposed to draw the line in a book labelled 18+ and dark

To me it sounds like you’ve gone above and beyond in creating a place where people can find trigger warning if they need to. I don’t think that we need to slap warnings on books in the same fashion that something like the MPA does with films. I think most authors and reviews already point these things out and it just takes a little research to find that information. I think it’s nice that you’ve created a resource for those who need it, but I don’t think that you need to do anymore than you’ve already done.

I agree, and do think I tried to make sure it was mentioned at least 3 times in different places. & thanks!

Life has no trigger warnings, and those that need them for books should have been eliminated from humanity's breeding pool long ago.

Hi! Your post is more appropriate for a writing sub. Check out /r/writing, please check their rules before posting. Good luck!

Rule 1. Discussion is the Goal

This post had nothing to do with writing itself and everything to do with the wrapper that the work comes in. This was not a bad place for this discussion.

Having been here for years, you are one of the most overzealous mods I have ever seen when it comes to what you consider "book related". Perhaps rule 1 should be a footnote somewhere, because it certainly isn't your primary directive.

Trigger warnings have been a popular topic in the past, you can use our search to find those older threads if you are interested. OPs post was 90% about their writing experience, and their question was about how to market their books. So yes, it belongs in a writing sub or a self publishing sub where they also posted.

Let us know if you need any more clarification. Have a wonderful day!
