To be clear, this menace is kids on bikes, not hooligans on dirtbikes.

A few dirtbikers joined them as seen in the article's photos, and the kids stole $350 worth of goods from a 7/11 after blocking traffic.

Probably in total blocked less car traffic, than cars parked in bike lanes block bike traffic. Why do police show up to bikes blocking car lanes? But not to cars blocking bike lanes?

That is kinda badass tho, ngl.

Nothing says badass quite like wearing makeup with your bros, exposing yourselves and your friends to unnecessary danger with no upside, inconveniencing the public, and shoplifting!

Sounds pretty cool to me.
>exposing yourselves and your friends to unnecessary danger with no upside
Moderate risk taking has been considered badass/cool/rock and roll/whatever for quite a while. Also how big really, is the risk of riding in a giant group of mostly cyclists, doing a few wheelies or whatever?
>inconveniencing the public
oh no they blocked a road or two for a bit on a Saturday afternoon
>shoplifting
yeah that part isn't cool at all

You just described the Boston Tea Party! That's how America was founded buddy!
IdkWhatIwant895 OP t1_iujpoaw wrote
The boston tea party was far more civil and orderly. They only targeted the destruction of the tea owned by the east india company. People who tried to loot anything were told off. They made sure to clean up after themselves and replaced the lock they broke.
Big_Rich_240 t1_iujr3b3 wrote
Wtf? How was the tea party more civil? They were revolting against Tea Act of passed by British parliament which was the government in control! These people are literally doing the exact same thing! Do you hate the founding of America then???

and these kids destroyed no property. They only stole from a corporation (which is fine by me because corporations are terrible) and biked down a road while looking baller af.

Does 7-11 stock it's franchise, or do they just require the mom-and-pop franchisee to purchase their stocks from corporate? One of those means it's not actually the corporation eating the losses.
Jackamalio626 t1_iujur75 wrote
No upside? They looked baller as fuck and got free 7-Eleven.
Yak_Rodeo t1_iujy3k1 wrote
weird way to say they stole.
look at philadelphia losing wawa because of the shoplifting from groups exactly like this, its not something to emulate
Jackamalio626 t1_iuk2olt wrote

Could be cool if organized as a formal event, a parade, of sorts.
Edit: can someone explain the vitriol against this train of thought? Genuine question.
__plankton__ t1_iujpuak wrote
Organized as a formal event lol cmon. Yea so the town can deny the permit or make sure it happens only in some cordoned off area and is limited to 10 people. We live in MA after all.
Plus kids do things like this cause it’s mildly rebellious. There’s nothing mildly rebellious about getting a permit with the city lol.
snailfighter t1_iujru5e wrote
I'm saying it's disruptive and dangerous when it isn't an official parade. Not that they should do that or that it would make sense. It might be exciting and rebellious, but it isn't safe.
I will say, if a bunch of kids do it legally, it stops being a weird unique thing that rebellious kids wanna do. That part might help discourage them.

I live near a school. It always seems like they’re getting dismissed or something around noon. Kids always seem to to be on the T no matter what time of day as well. And it’s sometimes middle schoolers. I can see High schoolers getting let out early. Maybe I’m missing something about schools in the city???

I meant you say that a bunch of teens/hooligans on bikes through your neighborhood is cool now. If you really want to see how it is, check out Philadelphia and you’ll get a good look at how it turns your city into the wild west
