I have never gone skiing or snowboarding in my life. I am hoping to learn how to ski, I was looking around and Boston Ski & Sports Club showed up. Any reviews about them?
Also, how would you approach the winter sports in general, like what are the resources for learning and for equipment, etc?

I have no experience with BSSC, but I took a quick look at their website and did not see anything targeted towards brand-new skiers.

Many ski areas will have special "first timer" deals. They typically include:

  • Equipment rental (skis/boots/poles/helmet)
  • A group lesson geared at absolute beginners
  • A lift ticket, often limited to one or two lifts that service only the easiest areas of the mountain.

This is how I learned to ski at age 35, and I think it's the "standard" way most adults do it.

The closest ski area is the Blue Hills, in Canton (you can take the 716 bus there from Mattapan). It looks like they offer a beginner package for $70: https://www.bluehillsboston.com/grouplessons

The closest "real" ski area is Wachusett. This is about 60 miles west, and I believe they run a shuttle bus from the commuter rail (Fitchburg Line). They seem to have a beginner package, but it looks like prices are not set for this season yet: https://www.wachusett.com/Lessons-Rentals/Lessons/Beginner-Packages.aspx

I learned at Bolton Valley, near Burlington VT, and had a great experience. My wife learned at Berkshire East, in Charlemont, about a 2:15 drive west of Boston.

BSSC is great, but for total beginners the social aspect is negligible and if you have a car, you are better off just driving yourself and paying for lessons. I prefer Bradford. Mass for learning https://skibradford.com/

Do yourself a favor and buy some ski pants before you go skiing. Skiing in jeans is a rookie mistake. Cold, wet, miserable. Don't shop for ski gear at the mountain (or hill) it's way more expensive there. All ski gear goes on-sale after Christmas.

I grew up learning at Nashoba Valley! Did ski clubs there through school. Have fun and good luck on your ski journey!!

I don't ski but I've had overall positive experiences with BSSC. I played floor hockey with them for several years and also did flag football with them one summer. I have done their white water rafting and kayaking trips in Maine before.

Your post appears to be one of a number of commonly asked questions about the port city of Boston. Anyway, Royale is fine if you're just trying to get drunk and dance and hookup. The Grand is more of the same as Royale but more expensive and a stricter dress code. Bijou is fine if you're into house music, the last few times I've been to Bijou the crowd was mostly freshly 21 people. Legacy is under Royale and a pretty great queer club if that's you're thing. Good Life, Phoenix Landing, Middlesex, and The Lower Level are all great for underground shows if that's your thing. The vibes at those 4 places are all pretty good. Good Life is my favorite and they open back up this weekend. If you're just looking to get trashed and don't care what you dance to or who you dance around, any of the bars around Haymarket/Faneuil Hall will do. Ned Devine's, Hennessey's, Hong Kong ($1 chicken sticks!), Sissy K's, Coogan's. I think there's a few more I'm missing but those are the big ones. Also, I can't believe I forgot this, but if you're into top 40 or hip hop, Venu, Cure, Icon, and Hava are places to go if you're looking for something a little nicer/fancier/more upscale than what the Faneuil Hall/Haymarket bars and clubs offer. I also forgot about Memoire because it's in the casino but frankly I don't really know anyone who goes to Memoire regularly. It's more of the same stuff they play at the Grand and Royale. Now I think I've named them all. Also, please check the sidebar for visitor information.
