Submitted by InsomniacElf t3_10feoic in consoles

Hi reddit! As the title suggests, I am trying to get my hands on an old console but I have no idea where to look. Ebay has questionably high prices and the shipping adds insult to injury so it was an instant no-go. Are there any sites specifically for discontinued (used) items you all shop from? Thanks in advance!

Edit: after recommendation I checked the Facebook marketplace and found a great deal on what I was looking for. Thank you everyone for your time❣️

i would still use ebay despite the issues you mentioned. price can be remedied by being persistent and frequently looking for the thing you want. to get an idea about what you should pay, find the item you want and sort by "sold". that will give you a good high to low range. shipping can be a pain. nothing to be done about it. but you have to factor in the fraud protections you're gonna get shopping with ebay. imo it's the absolute best option.

It's true that I didn't search for a lengthy period of time, I just looked for low shipping prices, but I found what I was looking for on Facebook. Thanks for the advice tho~

Ebay has done me right. I just got a PS1 from goodwillfinds.com that wasn't supposed to work but it did.

I've also found stuff in person on offer up and FB Marketplace. Really need to trust your instincts but it's been successful for me.

What are you looking for?

I was looking for a Gameboy sp for my brother's birthday (we grew up playing Pokémon gold on one). I found a great deal on Facebook(it's even the same colour as the one we used to have✨). Thanks a ton for the idea :)

Great! In my experience, most sellers with a bunch of good reviews are pretty reliable. Good luck with it!

I bought a lot from Facebook. However, Ebay covers you if there is an issue with the console. Also, check out gaming fairs. Just to note, old consoles that take CDs may have a dodgy laser reader.

Market place works great for affordability.
Some will mail it out to you as well, as long you pay first.
(Never been burned)

Also, goodwills, some pawnshops are open to barganing as well.
Salvation armies.... etc.

Otherwise, buy old consoles sold for parts, and have fun learning how to fix them. :)

I have nowhere near the confidence to even clean the parts of my own pc, let alone build an entire Gameboy :P Thanks for taking the time to reply, I found what I was looking for :)

Check to see if there are any stores in your city/town that are used consoles / trading stores. I currently work at one of those stores and I take in old consoles from customers and I test them, clean them, and sell them in my store. You can trust the ones we sell as well since they are thoroughly tested and formatted. Stores like mine usually sell games for the consoles as well so its a pretty neat deal. Better than a pawn shop lol
