My wife makes this and I call it homemade hamburger helper.

My wife says not to disgrace her dish by comparing it to hamburger helper and insists it’s called cheesy beefy noodles.

Not OP but I really like this one as somebody who was raised on the original:

https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/one-pot-hamburger-helper/

It says healthier mostly because they put shredded zuchini in it. It's not a low-calorie "it looks like real food but tastes like nothing" recipe. I omit the zuchini but might try it one day.

I’ve made it with the zucchini- you can’t really notice it but it does help make the sauce creamier in my opinion

We get these madras lentil soups from Costco and they’re SO GOOD mixed into the fancy Annie’s bunny mac and cheese lol. One of my and my husbands favorite comfort/guilt meals lol.

Recipe:

Sauté 1 diced yellow onion and 1 lb ground beef until beef is brown

Add 3 tbsp of flour, mix and cook for one minute

Add 3 cups beef broth and a can of tomato sauce, whisk together

Add pasta shells, bring to a boil, and then turn heat to low

Cook until pasta is al dente and reduce sauce

Turn off heat and add a cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 3 tbsp hotdog relish, salt and pepper

So don't drain the beef after browning?

What fat percentage are you using? 90/10?

Thanks for the recipe!

I used extra lean so didn’t need to be drained, if there’s excess fat then I would def drain it before adding flour!

It’s sooo tasty and so easy!! Do you add mustard and relish to yours? I added it here and it really added a sweet finishing touch

We grew poor but had just enough. When mom uses this specific pasta to extend some milk and cabbage soup, we think it was really fancy we forget we're poor. 😅

Yup, I grew up boiling ketchup for soup and having syrup toast for breakfast 😂

I have never heard of this before and tbh my Italian relatives would probably turn in their graves if I cooked it ;)

Sounds….interesting
