Hope you don't have well water and a leach bed because if that's the case then a dog pooping in the river is a drop in a puddle basically. If you have well water there is a very high chance that you have drank the same water that you or your neighbor flushed down the drain after taking a massive dump. Gets even better though if you have a sewer hookup and city water. They collect all the toilet water and filter it really good for solids and chemically treat it and it gets pumped right back to you again. I mean that's the basics of it. I over simplified.

Apparently not a single person on here knows how well water systems work, otherwise a dog pooping in a river would be the least of your worries. Allow me to explain. If your house or apartment doesn't have a city water hookup then you have a water well and pump on your property. If you have well water and you do not have a sewer hookup, I have some delicious news for you. Go over to your sink and pour yourself a nice refreshing glass of water and have a drink before we continue. Ok, feel better? That water you just drank used to be the same water that was in your toilet the last time you took a massive dump. Delicious right?

All of the water that goes down the drain in your house goes into a big pipe and out the basement wall usually, and then out into a septic tank, and then that holds the solid wastes, and then the liquid wastes get filtered out through a leach bed which is just gravel and probably sand and dirt. The well and septic tank usually have to be so far apart on a property to keep it safe.

Tbf it's probably the best place for it.

It's actually really bad for the environment which is part of the reason why picking up your dogs poo is important. Dog feces encourages algae growth that throws the ecosystem off balance and can have many unintended consequences.

Not saying this is a serious issue and a single turd in the water probably isn't going to do a whole lot but this should absolutely be avoided.

Well you are correct a little bit. I mean good luck picking up every turd she lays in a river then probably putting it in a "plastic" bag. Either way good on doggo!
