Pretty sure it's "interesante".

I love when people are pretty sure while absolutely wrong. It's r/confidentlyincorrect I think?

Why would they even say "behind you, interesting"

PM_Me_OCs t1_jegdyg5 wrote

If you want to replace the wrong words, go for it. Originally, it was "interesante imbecil," I don't speak Spanish but I'm pretty sure they were going for "Over here, stupid."

"Intere • san • te, imbecil," I had to think about it for more than five seconds too, don't beat yourself up about it.

fuegofella12 t1_jegi5jp wrote

Interesante means interesting.

Next time, make sure you're right before you get condescending.

FistfulOfShit t1_jegklgj wrote

Dude you're doubling down on being fucking dumb. Why would they say "interesting, imbecile".

I'm a native portuguese speaker and I have average spanish skills, and you're blatantly and funnily wrong.

If I actually cared about what you or anyone else commenting, "ThErE's OnLy OnE dEfInItIoN fOr ThAt WoRd AcRoSs AlL sPaNiSh DiAlEcTs," I'd be a lot worse off. My train of thought is up there, take it or leave it.

FistfulOfShit t1_jegn1l8 wrote

Yeah, it's up to you to decide what ANY word means in ANY dialect right. Like you couldn't just be wrong and get over it, you have to say a metric ton of bullshit trying to come out right.

While I was on Death Island, one of them shouted, "EL TIEMPO!" but I heard "HOOOME DEEEEPOOOTT!" and I had to assume by this point that this was some weird crossover arc. Didn't help that he hit me with an axe right after...

Haven't played it, do they still talk in Mexican Spanish or Spain Spanish?

15

ChaosMiles07 t1_jeh0svd wrote

Takes place in Spain, so I'm guessing Spain Spanish.

Also they lisp some of the letters (cecéo), a trait more often found in European Spanish than Latin American Spanish.

8

MyPhoneIsNotChinese t1_jeh165t wrote

The thing is that the original also took place in Spain yet they talked Mexican Spanish for some reason

As someone from Spain and considering the game happens in Spain yes, I'm kinda tired Americans mistake both groups

25

ItsNotABimma t1_jegn0nz wrote

Not all Americans make that assumption.

12

Rough-Worth3554 t1_jegqpwp wrote

Not all, but when happens it’s mostly like “all are Mexicans”. And it’s like saying all the english speakers are from Australia. Tell that to a breton

ho_D_or7 OP t1_jegl65h wrote

I’m not American but i never know they differ , could you explain the difference to me ?

−5

MyPhoneIsNotChinese t1_jegnhtq wrote

I'm not sure how to describe it, but the entonation is quite different, and some words change too. It's like UK english and US english to say the most common varieties of english.

Sometimes they'll come up to you saying "te cogí," (I've got you!)

But it sounds like tekogi 手漕ぎ meaning "spankin' it" in Japanese.

Which is also frightening

" Coged lo " from " Coged " in spanish from spain. A way to tell others to catch him. In latin american spanish ' Coger " literally means " Fxck " ( in a sexual way ) so in latam that's " Fxck him *
