I probably will lose any gaming credibility for this but for me it's Garfield Kart. Bought it digitally as a joke on Wiiu to play with my best friend. I was determined to beat all the cups despite how terrible it is. Sadly I also picked up up physically cause someone on Facebook marketplace had some games really cheap. Even more depressing is I also picked it up for Switch cause I had to sell my Wiiu at one point due to my previously mention best friend being an alcoholic and not paying his end of the rent. Still havent beaten the game either

I'm sort of the same but I also played through it again and enjoyed it the second time. My expectations were rock bottom going into ff15 the second time, but that let me appreciate it for what it actually was rather than what I wanted it to be. I had a similar experience with FFX-2, hated it the first time then came back a couple of years later with zero expectations and enjoyed it.

At what point do you not like a game and go:”you know what, that’s wasn’t fun let’s do it again”?

3

Winterplatypus t1_iuiq9cb wrote

When I have a craving for a specific genre and haven't played the game in years. I can always stop playing it if I find it shit again the second time. Knowing the flaws before you start helps because you don't get fixated on them. Like instead of being annoyed how ff13 was not open world, I know it's going to be linear and it doesn't bother me. Replaying it with the right expectations stops me caring about the shit parts so I can focus on the good parts.

Haha don't get me wrong - still love the story, the characters, and the visual style/feeling of the games. Even the combat is still pretty fun.

However, open world mechanics and general RPG quality of life have come a long way, and I'm pretty spoiled by now 🤷🏼‍♂️

There was a PS2 game (can't remember name) where you are a car, and you travel from town to town unlocking upgrades and competing in races. There are many fetch side quests to get you more money for upgrades, and it just takes an enormous amount of time to unlock everything. It's very cartooney and has essentially no story besides "beat the races". Terrible racing physics, terrible dialogue, no story to speak of, obviously meant for 5-8 year olds.

Well, I paid $20, and I'm not wasting it. I beat it over the course of about 2 months. Unlocked everything, fully explored every area, completed all quests, and purchased every upgrade. I still don't know why.

Cricklad95 t1_iuhrxa9 wrote

Road Trip Adventure is a fantastic game.

Wash your mouth out!

Also I replayed that game last year and beat it in one weekend so definitely didn’t take an enormous amount of time to unlock things

3

ALurkerForcedToLogin t1_iuijeya wrote

THAT'S IT! It took me a long time because I wasn't playing it constantly. I was primarily playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 trying to get perfects on every fight with Shin Akuma in world tour mode. When I'd get frustrated with that, I'd switch.

2

Cricklad95 t1_iuimbzu wrote

Definitely doesn’t deserve to be called a terrible game, I thought it was brilliant and have replayed it countless times over the years.

I’d genuinely pay money for remastered version but I can’t see it ever happening

4

ALurkerForcedToLogin t1_iuims0l wrote

Well, whether or not something is good or terrible is subjective. I guess I shouldn't necessarily say it's terrible, I mean I did beat the thing after all, but it's far from the best game I've ever played. I guess I don't play too many different kinds of games to be exposed to the worst ones. I don't play any of the sports games for example, and I'm pretty careful about not purchasing games that don't have good reviews.

I've got roughly 500 hours in the game since it launched. I'm actually doing another playthrough right now. It's got tons of bugs, I have to keep 3 copies of each save file because they get corrupted easily, and some of the voice acting is RE1 equivalent.
