I love JRPGs but the intros can be a bit of a drag if you already know the story. I got in the habit of making a lot of saves for a given game when the world opens up. Curious if anyone else does this and for what game and where in the game you save.

For me it's:

FF7 post Midgar

FFX post Operation Mi'ihen

DQ8 post getting the ship

I did this in new Vegas and fallout 4 staying neutral until a choice had to be made. Then can revert back without going through 50 hours of grinding again

That's actually a really good idea. Stealing it.

I did it for more "open rpg's" but at least for the final fantasy games I can understand why at these points

Yeah Bethesda games are great for this at big story points, but you typically need to spoil it to know when and where to do this. This is a big move too with trophy hunting to otherwise avoid replaying an entire game to go down an alternate path. Also one I love is in faming games like star dew valley or harvest moon make a save right before getting married with all choices maxed out.

I strongly dislike games with a "save anywhere" feature for this reason. I remember playing Oddworld Stranger's Wrath and saving during boss battles and it just was not a fun experience. I recently played Quake on PS4 and despite it having such a feature, I only save between levels, it's just more fun for me.
