Old games that are still great today

I just recently started playing Devil May Cry 3 again after years and just got really impressed by how polished and well made the gameplay is, even for today's standards.

I'm looking for more recomendations on games from the PS2 era and older that holds up nowadays gameplaywise.

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 both hold up well with their stories.

Demon's Souls, the original. The Remake proves it, considering it's just a reskin.

  • most Final Fantasy games
  • Okami
  • Chrono Cross
  • Kingdom Hearts (the first one may be lacking a bit)
  • Crash Bandicoot (all the 3 ps1 games)
  • Spyro the Dragon (all the 3 ps1 games)
  • Ninja Gaiden Black (or Sigma can work)
  • most Megaman games
  • Legend of Zelda (Majora's Mask is still my all time favorite)
  • Smash Bros 64 and Melee

PS2 era fighting games hold up SUPER well, there's a reason MvC2 and SF3:3rd Strike are still competed in. I highly recommend Tekken 5 though, it has Arcade ports of Tekken 1-3 built into the game so it's one of the best values of the PS2 era imo.
