I mean, you probably still haven't watched a jaguar carve a jack-o'-lantern... but we can pretend!

At EFRC they have what they call a Pumpkin Bash. They hollow out a bunch of pumpkins and fill them with raw chicken breasts. Each big cat gets their own. It's super cute. The tigers will play with them like a ball before digging in.

It's so bizarre to think "oh, sure. An entire pumpkin. That's a good treat for a cheetah. I sure do love plain pumpkin."

(Yes, I know cats can't actually taste sweet, which makes it even more bizarre to me)

I’m sure this is in the comments lower, but Jaguars are the one big cat that doesn’t kill with strangulation. They puncture the skull of their prey with the strongest bite of any cat.

Chaserivx t1_itot5tk wrote

I'm disappointed that they didn't steal it back and light it up

Dapeder t1_itp0yr6 wrote

IIRC Jaguars are the only big cat species that do not kill by biting the victims neck and therefore punctuating/curshing their windpipes and main blood flow, but by crushing it's skull. They have the highest bite force to head ratio for big cats. But that's a big IIRC

Most cats (all sizes) like pumpkin. We give pumpkin puree as an occasional treat at the (domestic cat) shelter where I volunteer. Vets will recommend it to help cats with digestive issues too-- it's one of the best fibers for beneficial gut bacteria.

Reminds me of a dog I once knew. Didn't really like the taste of carrot but loved the crunch so it was funny to see the complete dichotomy in the facial expression and the absolute gusto with which he crunched!

I like how a lot of animals will be chewing on something and then do a face like "duahghh this is so horrible" and spit it out and the continue to chew.
