This scene is such a mix of influences. I get a post apocalyptic vibe along with a typical anime calmness. It makes me want to explore it.

Those cables are very heavy and would not be so influenced by wind. So a little dramatic, but if it's artistic flair, good stuff. Well done

Nice work. Curious, why did you decided to call it relic?

HowsTheBeef t1_j38uzul wrote

Not op but look at it. Disconnected powerline frames, useless monoliths that suggest a previous but discontinued purpose for humans, who are nowhere to be found.

If an alien were to do archeology on earth after humans, they would describe these types of structures as relics

Hi all! This pixel art animation is 320x200px using 28 hand drawn frames. I doubled the resolution for viewing purposes. I wish you all a happy day <3

What are the flashing white circles?

Atherum t1_j3apevo wrote

The sun is flashing off the metal tower on the left. It is causing a "sun flare" across the rest of the artwork.

My first thought was the Camp Fire in 2018 in California that was caused by faulty PG&E lines.

I kind of love that you use power lines as your subject. Whenever I see local artists where I live painting landscapes, they always take the power lines out. I understand why, but the power lines are part of the landscape and texture of a place, I think. They're the blood lines of modern society in the first world.

Makes me think of Neon Genesis Evangelion, with the bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds, I can see this as a scene where an angel is about to attack or the Evas running across the field.

My one gripe with pixel art animations like this, is they so often include an 'event' that creates a very noticeable loop point, unless the animation is really long. In this case, it's the sun flare, and it detracts from the ability to use them as backgrounds, just in my personal opinion.

Excellent art otherwise!

I'd like to think it's a future scene where the majority of humanity no longer relies on the power grid.

1

D-DayDodger t1_j3bw849 wrote

I interpreted it as just a simple view of the future. Like humanity has moved on from this basic technology and now these once essential powerlines are obsolete and neglected. I didn't get a post-apocalyptic vibe at all.

There is also the tidbit that the overwhelming majority of mountains are in the west of the country, and I don't know if they are snow-peaked or not. I guess they could be, but they are nowhere near the frontlines and have mostly been spared in terms of carnage and destruction.

Of course everyone interprets it how they want, and this was not to throw a monkey wrench into their version. My immediate guess would have been Alaska, Vorarlberg or Kamchatka, but I haven't been to these places yet.
