I Fell asleep with my phone plugged in. Woke up to it in a boot loop. Have tried hard resetting it to no avail. I am currently attempting to update the software through iTunes and am getting stuck on "Preparig Iphone for Software Update"

The only thing I could think happened is possibly some water from the case dripped into the charge port as I often take my phone in the shower. However, I do this quite often and the only issue I've had in the past is the occasional fried charger. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

The phone is an iPhone 11. I'm not positive which software version I was on up until this point but am currently trying to update to 16.3. I have not yet tried resetting the phone and would like to avoid doing so if possible.

If I do indeed have to reset the phone would I be able to salvage any of the data?

EDIT: Received error code 2003 and now consistently receiving error code 5. I am attempting to use a third-party cable to do this update could that be the cause? Its just a 10ft cable from marshalls or whatever.

If you have everything backed up to iCloud (photos, messages, notes, contacts, etc.), there should be no reason to worry about losing any data. You can simply reset and restore.

Why do you take your phone in the shower? That’s… odd and ill-advised. These phones are water resistant but not waterproof. Even though they can withstand water, steam is another animal and charging is always a problem after a good soaking. Stop doing that in the future.

Im not sure I do but I believe at least my contacts are on iCloud and many of my photos are backed up in google.

I have been taking my phone in the shower for many many years and never had this kind of issue.

I'm in the same boat, woke up to this after upgrading OS overnight.

Good luck. Turns out unless you have gone specifically out of your way to turn it off iCloud should backup most things
