Moved to Dracut recently and need the roof on our 2 story house redone. We got one quote from Express Roofing, for what seems a reasonable price, but we were leery of their high-pressure tactics. Their quote was only good for a week; we're used to quotes being good for a month. Any suggestions on who to call out and what a typical roof job costs here?

Unfortunately my recommendations aren’t in your area. But make sure they are licensed, insured, and you are having architectural shingles put on (30 year life span). Don’t get the pressure, there are a lot of roofers out there.

Seconding them. They replaced a rubber roof between 2 dormers (+rotted underneath), chimney and pipe flanges for 5k. Fast work, easy to work with.

Get other quotes! If you a couple weeks later you are still interested in Express Roofing then tell them and if they say the quote is expired then tell them to quote it again for that week (they don't need to come out to re-quote a job)

It really depends on what you need done. Unfortunately I had a nearly whole roof replacement ($36k). I went with Newpro because they had financing that was relatively low. But the roof has a 50 year warranty, the company has existed for a long time so it’s likely they will still exist in that 50 year period should I need them.

They likely just re-sold your roof job to their subcontractors who do the roofing for bottom dollar prices with slave like labor. The financing is just a company called Hearth of similar that allows contractors to offer financing on their jobs to homeowners. You could have gotten financing from a credit union or something. The warranty is something they can weasel out of if they want.

Any company that says 'We have done 10,000 roofs in MA' means they just re-sell your job to smaller roofers as subcontractors who you could just hire yourself. So find a small roofing company that doesn't re-sell the job to subcontractors.
