I'm one of the unfortunate ones who was hit with the 64% electricity price increase with National Grid. From what I can tell, it seems while the price of the electricity itself has gone up 64% from .11/kWh to .34/kWh, the other fees (distribution, transmission, energy efficiency, etc) have stayed about the same. So the actual total increase is more like .27/kWh to .34/kWh (26%). Anyway, it still sucks and seems pretty high.

Question: Has anyone switched to another supplier like Constellation? This site (noticed on another thread here) seems to suggest I could cut my total bill in half by committing a 3 year contract with Constellation: https://www.massenergyrates.com/

Curious if it's legit and if anyone's done it? Thanks.

Edit: I think my numbers above might be wrong and it is actually a full 64% increase on the total bill, with the supply rate more than doubling and the delivery fees staying about the same. I was basing my numbers off my Nov 9 bill, which I'm not realizing prorated the supply price increase that started on Nov 1.

What about the town or city you live in? Do they participate in Mass Power Choice? https://www.masspowerchoice.com Some cities and towns participate in what’s called “Community-focused electricity aggregation” where they go out and negotiate three year contracts where the supply rate is fixed. You can easily opt in. Of course depends on what town or city you live in. Something tells me you have already tried looking into this…

Thanks! My city does have a plan for this, but it’s been in the state review stage for a year (according to the city website). I’d love to use this but I’m just not sure how long it will be before it’s available.

I think I'm going to make the switch. If I understand correctly, there's a $150 fee for canceling the 3-year Constellation contract early. My electricity usage is pretty high (EV car), so I'll save several hundred over the next 6 months before Nat Grid adjusts their rates again. That $150 fee would be easily worth it if I choose to switch again at some point later.

Same situation, just did it today after seeing my new bill. Went from .45/c kWh down to .18c. As someone else has said, even if I end up stuck with the $150 cancellation fee it will be well worth the savings these next few months.
