not sure if that's a small house or a big garage

Bit of both if we’re being honest, I’ve seen a fair number of these and a bunch of the space is more house space - that upper level and maybe even some room in the back of that “garage” are probably more living area, maybe a man cave or storage or something. Way to get more “house” without actually adjusting your real house

As it should be... :)

(I wish my garage was that big! Working on my car in my tiny garage is an exercise in contortion and pain).

It's quite common. People use them as a shop to work on things and often also use the upstairs as a "mother-in-law" house. They also rent the upstairs out too.

Honestly goals, even if the house too big and the lot too small

Are these types of houses (large garage and small home) inexpensive?

This particular house is on a lake, I’m guessing it was somewhere in the 400-600 thousand range before the garage add on.
