When they first came out with those strips all you had to do was gently tear the bill next to the strip n pull and out it came. Now it seems a bit harder judging by your work.

I somehow managed to tear this bill in three parts, partially removing the security strip. I didn't know that it was a separate thing. I thought it was part of the bill, like the watermark.

Probably should take it to the bank and see if they can swap it and remove the damaged bill from circulation. I guess they would do that? There has to be a system.
