Agreed. It has to be some kind of nightmare to risk your life and family/friends in a home-made boat for a completely uncertain life. As an immigrant myself, I can only think ‘good for them’!

Good for them. Cubans in America are just so grateful and excited to be Americans now. It’s ok to recognize America’s many issues but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be proud to be here and be motivated to change it for the better out of love instead of destructive hate.

It’s somewhere between 120 and 250 nautical miles depending on when they left. A speed boat can make it in about 10 hours… so for them… 15-20 hours?

These homemade boats are called chugs. I am amazed by the ingenuity and saddened by the plight of the people who do this.
