Hi everybody

I know I’m super late to the party but I just watched Get Out last night. Fantastic movie. The only thing I can’t really figure out is the scene where the grandma (“the maid”) unplugs Chris’ phone and then talks to him about it and starts crying while standing in front of Chris. Why is she behaving like this? Is she against the whole body swapping thing? Or is this the person who’s body she is hosting breaking through a bit?

Thanks I’m advance for your theories/explanations!!

I personally take it as Georgina's emotions coming out despite being in the sunken place. Like she can't do anything about it and she knows what's going to happen to Chris so the emotional reaction is so strong it breaks through momentarily.

I think that’s a great point. I just realised that there’s also a few more times when Georgina seems to break through like when she’s pouring iced tea at the start and gets told to go lie down

Yeah! Kind of like desperation to save someone from your own fate so you do anything possible to get a warning through. Similar to when Andre breaks at the camera flash and tries to warn Chris to get out

Thank you so much that makes so much more sense now. It seems Georgina is slightly better at resisting the sunken place or her operation wasn’t as “fool proof” as Logan’s or Walter’s who need a trigger to release themselves. What a fucked up amazing movie!!

I'm so glad that you liked it!! It just gets better and better as you rewatch it and dissect it! I'm envious of you seeing it for the first time honestly

I’m not a big fan of horror which is why it took so long to be honest 😅 but thank god I did. Are there any psychological movies like it that have a similar feel? I’ve already watched it again this morning!!

oh my gosh I'm the worst at recommendations because I love everything even if it's not good but maybe try asking in r/horror because the people over there know so much!!!

It's the latter. If I recall it's either theorized or implied she's also the one who leaves the door to the box of previous victims open for Chris to find.
