NH needs to significantly raise the wages for county and state CO’s. You can go right over the border in MA and there’s openings at the state and county level for CO’s with an entry level salary of $65K.

The Valley Street Jail in Manchester (Hillsborough County) has CO jobs posted starting at $18/hr. The jail in Billerica, MA (Middlesex County) has the same job for $31/hr.

That's true of every government job here. Makes you wonder who's running things.

We've had to use the national guard to drive schoolbuses, now prisons and soon classrooms.

That is the cost of not having a tax system other than property and being sparsely populated. Not criticizing but taxes are what pays for COs, school bus drivers, teachers, police, fire, etc. No one likes taxes but they are a necessity if you want government funded systems. The alternative is to pay tuition, pay for private police and fire companies, etc. Most of these practices were eliminated years ago because they didn’t work, were corrupt, and cost the consumer more than government funded systems.

NH is like stepping back in time in every way-- laws, courts, resources, infrastructure, everything antiquated and old timey

I believe the state starts at around 40K for CO’s and like I said the counties are paying $16-$18 an hour starting.

Who the hell would be a CO for $2 more than Walmart?

According to the Department of Corrections, the vacancy rate for entry-level corrections officers is 51 percent.

Free Market says it is time to up wages... all of these organizations are hoping a recession is around the corner and will be able to hire people like it was 2008 again and I have bad news it isn't coming.

Clearly the free market has spoken if your vacancy rate is 51% you aren’t competing in the market
