I know this question has been asked a million times but I’m not seeing any actual names. Does anyone recommend a car inspection station that won’t screw you around? I have a newer car, early 2000s and a 1986. DM me if you don’t want to give up the good inspectors to all of Reddit lol

Trial and error or connections when it comes to finding a good mechanic. By good mechanic, I'm not talking about someone ignoring safety standards and slapping a sticker on any jalopy. It took me a while to find an honest but lenient mechanic. He'd tell me if something was an actual immediate safety issue and wouldn't slap a sticker on if that was the case. He'd straight up tell me what needs to be replaced and to come back once it's fixed. He'd give his price for the repair but suggested shopping around and even telling me what parts I should get myself if I wanted to do it myself.

Other minor issues, he'd tell me "get this fixed before you come back next year, otherwise you'll likely fail inspection". He'd never pressure me into having those minor issues dealt with immediately by him. He was my go-to guy. Unfortunately health issues forced him out of the business.

DO NOT!!! Go to VIP tires and service in Manchester. When I first moved here I did not know a place and went there for just an oil change on a two year old Jeep Renegade. They tried to tell me that it was out of alignment and brought out some computer test pictures showing it. I knew they were full of s@it so I told them it was still under warranty and I will bring it back to the dealer. I ended up finding a dealer that had Saturday appointments and asked them to check it. It was fine. Total scumbags tried to scam me. Oh did I also mention I am female so they probably thought I was fresh meat.

Time to make the extended warranty scam work for us, and if anyone is in doubt about diagnostics like mine, just tell them it is under warranty you will take it to the dealer/warranty place regardless of how old the car.

Speedy Lube on 2nd Street. Brian, the owner, is a great guy...Eagle Scout. Very honest. I always trusted him to do car repairs (the ones they're able to do) because he isn't looking to make a big buck off on the repairs. As he told me once, his main business is oil changes, which requires building trust for repeat service.

I occasionally still go there even though I'm a bit of a hike away now. My family has been going there for over 2 decades.

And honestly, just look at the Google Reviews and you'll see I'm not the only one who used "honest" and fair priced to describe them. So you don't need to trust me...plenty of others have had the same awesome experience!

I can vouch for Jean’s Auto in Merrimack on the DW Highway. I don’t live near there anymore but they were always straight shooters every time I took my car there and explained everything in detail. Small mom and pop shop just a minute over the Bedford-Merrimack town line.

Extra Care Auto Repair in Hooksett. Reasonable inspection price and they seem like honest folks. Been going to them for years and never had issues.

I went to a new car dealer of another vehicle brand and they were straight. There’s no financial incentive for them to play you

Give you a giant list of repairs that don’t need to happen. Basically I know two of my cars are not pretty but they are super sound mechanically. Don’t want to be fucked over because they can

This is your best bet. The only reasons we have inspections is becuase one guy owns a bunch of dealerships and spends a lot of money lobbying the states politicians. He is currently trying to convince them to change it to 6 month inspection.
