The question about the Amazon building reminded me of something I've wondered for years, and maybe one of you know...
Although I've lived in NH since I was 10, I grew up near Manchester and never went to Portsmouth until I went to UNH in the mid-to-late 90s. When I first started visiting the area, I noticed what seemed to be an already unused building along 16, perhaps midway between the exit for Woodbury and the traffic circle, along the right, I think.
It was a fairly big 1 or 2 story building, I believe tan or gray in color and had stucco or some other masonary as its exterior rather than siding. And the strange part was it was decorated with ocean imagery. I never got a good enough look from the highway to figure out if the shapes were carved into the side of the building or affixed to it, but it sort of looked like maybe what seemed to be carved might have be attachment points for 3D that'd been removed.
Anyone know what it was? I at first assumed it was a defunct aquarium but I've never heard of one in the area. Maybe a pet store? Or pool supply place?
I wish I'd been as able to navigate Portsmouth as well all the way back then as I do now so I'd of had the confidence to try to find it for a better look. Whatever it was, I haven't noticed it for years so something else is probably there now.
Ring any bells?

The mural you're referring to is the Pease Wastewater Treatment Facility.
I drive by it all the time and figured it was something like that, but your post had me look into it.
