Hi! I’ve never taken a Lakeland Bus into Port Authority before and I’m a bit anxious, so I’m hoping someone can answer a few questions.

I know I’m looking for the Rt 80 route, picking up from the Rockaway Mall Park & Ride (lot 36, green parking spots). I can’t find confirmation online if it is free to park there for the day or if you need to pay. Is there any signage indicating where to line up/wait for the bus after parking?

I will probably try to catch the bus at either 7:10 or 7:50 based on the current timetables. Do they tend to leave on time? Do these busses tend to be very crowded? How far in advance do people tend to line-up in order to get a seat? What happens if there are more people than will fit on the bus? (Are people allowed to stand in the aisle? Or do you just wait for the next one?)

I’m used to commuting via New Jersey transit bus from Weehawken to Port Authority (prior to 2020), where the timetables are really just a suggestion, people would line up early, and cram in shoulder-to-shoulder to stand in the aisles during rush hour so… Just trying to prepare myself :)

Thanks

Do these busses tend to be very crowded? It really varies now. Hard to say. Tues, Wed, and Thurs are most crowded.

How far in advance do people tend to line-up in order to get a seat? Maybe 10-15 min

What happens if there are more people than will fit on the bus? (Are people allowed to stand in the aisle? Or do you just wait for the next one?) I would not stand but they sometimes allow it.

I've done this exactly one time. It's miserable. Unless you absolutely have to get in or out of the city, I would not recommend standing.

Yes. It's not safe, and you are standing for about an hour.
