Hi all, I recently added the full tort option (hope I'm getting that term right) to my car insurance as it only increased my monthly premium by a few dollars. Given that NJ is a No Fault State, would you even get to use the benefit of suing an At Fault driver for damages? I'm just sick of bad drivers staying on the road after causing accidents and not facing any consequences. (Sorry if the flair doesn't apply but it's the best I've got).

The difference between Full Tort & Limited Tort is that you can sue for pain & suffering or serious injury.

In New Jersey, a serious injury is any of the following:

Displaced fracture Loss of a limb Serious scarring or disfigurement Loss of a fetus Permanent injury other than scarring or disfigurement (To prove this, you will need to obtain a Certification of Permanent Injury from a doctor.) Death

How was yours only a few dollars per month? I just checked mine and it would go up $51/month. A 33% increase.

It was similar for me to, about 35 dollars or so, but that was before I bundled renters and auto. The two together became less than what my auto policy was on its own. I added some extra coverage levels at a fraction of what they would have been without the bundle.

I guess my bank account's and my emotional "pain and suffering" from keeping the car on the road don't count, but then again, anything's fair game for a lawyer (and I have some access to legal services through work). I suppose an accident bad enough to total the car could cause some pretty bad injury. Just curious, thanks.

I probably have it but you need a dashcam or a new car with accident recording to have the evidence for your insurance company to sue someone. otherwise, it's useless

Yeah, I got the phone recording in the front. Will need a front and rear camera setup at some point

Sounds like you just need a better lawyer.

It is absolutely worth it. Limited tort/verbal threshold is very hard to overcome. If someone slams into you causing chronic back pain and sleepless nights, but no breaks or tears, you will have an uphill fight to try to get compensated for your pain and suffering.

Full tort and underinsured motorist coverage are always worth it since they protect you.
