The wait list for Section 8 Housing (partial or full rent voucher) opens every 4 to 5 years at completely random times. When it does, it is poorly advertised, so I am sharing here in case it helps anyone who has also been waiting for it to open!

The application portal is open until February 3rd, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. ET.

https://www.waitlistcheck.com/NJ559

Veterans, Homeless, Disabled and Domestic Violence victims are prioritized for selection, in that order, followed by general residents.

This page also has information on what incomes qualify in which counties (interesting to see how different the thresholds are).

Even if you make it on to the wait list through the lottery, it could be years before you are selected, but it is always worth a try.

[Forgive formatting. On mobile.]

From Benefits.gov:

Section 8 housing vouchers are administered locally by public housing agencies (PHAs), who receive funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The local PHA determines the amount of housing assistance a participating family receives and pays the landlord directly on behalf of the family. The family will cover the balance owed for the rent. According to HUD, a participating family must pay at least 30% of its monthly income for rent and utilities.

Crazy some guy gets more pissed about section 8 housing taking care of Veterans, disabled individuals, and the homeless, than the national plot of the GOP to overthrow our democracy and utilize false electors infiltrating their state capitols to subvert the results of the 2020 election up to and including an assault on our Capitol in an effort to delay things long enough and force the certifications back to the states, where a nationwide conspiracy would submit fraudulent certifications.

I miss the days when Americans cared about integrity, honesty, and taking care of our fellow Americans. That being said thanks mate for paying your taxes for my disability, hopefully my PTSD from sexual trauma homeless ass will be selected for section 8 so you can pay for my housing too.

I myself, who works a Union Job, EVERYDAY, am really tired of paying for Section 8 housing, unemployment, etc. With my hard earned money (state taxes) … I understand if someone is disabled but, this is out of hand already … do we New Jerseyans (Jersian’s) want to end up like Oregon, Washington, parts of California or EVEN PHILADELPHIA (Heroin alley), where everyone is living in tents ⛺️ on the street? NO, I DONT WANT TO SEE THAT HAPPEN TO OUR STATE … Bergen County, where I live, Is the second most expensive place in the country to live, aside from Orange 🍊 County, California (where I lived for 6+ years) … IM NOT BERATING THOSE UNFORTUNATES, I’m just saying that we need to get a handle on this this issue … that’s why NJ should be a RED state for a change … not a Blue state like NY or California … just my opinion, I’m eager to see how everyone responds … God Bless, and God Bless the USA 🇺🇸 gif

What makes a red state? Having a republican governor?

Section 8 housing isn't tents. It's homes these people can live in. And it's not homeless people that are getting these.

You're paying more in taxes for corporate subsidies and other bullshit than you are for any section 8 housing or unemployment.

I'm sick of taxes too. We red and blue, and independent need to come together and make billionaire's pay their fair share. Remember Panama papers? These greedy assholes are why we are hurting. I agree, disabled people are the only ones who should get section 8. Everyone else should be able to make a decent living no matter where they work. It starts by raising the minimum wage.

You are mad at the wrong people.

You know how countries in Europe afford social welfare like universal healthcare and education?

By taxing people like you the same way they tax billionaires. 25% on nearly everything you buy, 32% on income up to $60k, 52% on anything above $60k, and 30% on capital gains.

Better vote republican then for their 23% sales tax :)

Too much taxes. No thank you.

So they can repeal and replace all other safety nets?

SleepyHobo t1_j5uaxtv wrote

So they implement the tax you’re so eager to sign up for of course. You said it, not me.

I’d rather have a little spending money leftover instead of the government taking it all but that’s just me.

*And repeal the income tax that actually funds education and universal healthcare in Europe? Have you ever been to Europe?

SleepyHobo t1_j5ud0bi wrote

Have you? I don't see Democrats trying to implement something like this. Instead they just blab about billionaires paying their fair share. Taxing billionaire won't let us afford social welfare. I guess we're at a standstill.

The last thing I want is the federal government and all of its bureaucracy , lobbying, and inefficiency running healthcare. 100% guaranteed to end up like Canada’s failing system.

Section 8 literally prevents the tent cities you are mentioning.

When has red states done anything to benefit homeless and struggling populations?

You want NJ to be the next Kentucky? Also, stop acting like NJ state taxes take 70% of your pay. Get more angry at shit like the 295/42/76 project that's taken 20 years and millions of dollars. Most of the progress has happened in the last 2 years, and they STILL fucked it up and it has a collapsed section that they won't fix for another 20 years because "we need to have engineers survey it"

Careful now. Lots of the unemployed that you're propping up mindlessly scroll reddit up voting the Democrats talking points to get their dopamine fix.

Notice how it's early in the morning so you got all the working folks behind you right now. Right around 10am when the losers start waking up, you'll be getting mobbed with hateful comments.

I thought y'all were Christians? Jesus says "whatever you do not do for the least of these, you do not do for Christ" in reference to homeless, hungry, and struggling people. "For I was a stranger and you did not take me in." Jesus literally says you will burn in Hell for failing to take care of these people.
