I got an email from Cosori today saying mine is recalled. They're offering a free replacement, just had to take pictures of the front, back, and underside along with the Batch number, and literally cut the powercord to verify I've disabled it. Which I did. So hopefully they actually do ship the replacement now. . . .

Hungry makes people stupid tbh. I'd totally see myself putting chicken nuggets in it an hour after requesting my replacement 😂

I mean I'd been using it regularly for 3 years and it hadn't exploded yet, so… ;-)

I got the same recall, this is supposed to be the good unit! Dammit.

I'm doing the recall, but I could see maybe using it in the driveway for a little things occasionally. It's not like I used it even once a week. It was rare.

mritty t1_j9ujw0h wrote

in order to process the recall, they're requiring pictures of the unit with the power cord cut.

Which is an incredibly easy fix with a box-cutter and some electrical tape (or wire-strippers and heat-shrink wrap if you're feeling fancy).

GatoNanashi t1_j9s3wgh wrote

Ditto. It's funny cause I already had to add a bump of high temp epoxy on the top of the basket to keep it working anyway.

When I pushed it into the machine the switch wouldn't close reliably. It had just worn down with use.

I did this yesterday as well. My air fryer is pretty beat up. The basket doesn’t latch together properly anymore, also the buttons have basically never worked well. Hoping I get a decent replacement since I’ve sent the hostage photos of it with the chopped cord.

We had an air fryer turn into a rolling ball of fire on our back porch about a year ago. I wonder if it was one of the recalled ones. Had it been in the house I'm quite sure it would have burned the place down.

The process sucks. They require you to take three photos proving you’ve disabled the product and then hang onto the product and await instructions.

eschutter1228 t1_j9satsm wrote

Well the translation of Cosori from Romanian to English is “Hook” ie. We Cosori’d you!

The_Drizzle_Returns t1_ja26b6i wrote

How does this process suck? Its taking pictures vs shipping the item back (which you usually need to do).

3

eschutter1228 t1_jabkzu3 wrote

Because I purchased it to work, and not for me to have a disabled photographed box of e-waste sitting on my counter until they replace it. Fortunately we don’t rely on the air fryer alone, but apparently some people do, who now need to get a different food prep solution while they wait for their replacement.

1

Savet t1_ja0k0gs wrote

It makes sense though. The pictures prove the product and that you have disabled it. But people suck at taking pictures so they tell you to keep it until they instruct you to get rid of it, which is probably when they approve your recall submission.

A couple years ago I had my air frier catch fire and almost burn my house down. I figured it was user error caused by grease or something. Now I am kinda pissed that I didn’t contact Cosori after that.

Feels almost intentional, with a poor process. Last time dealing with Cosori for me.

this is a brand I frequently see as touted good deal whenever the sales hit. by which I mean, this brand goes on sale often enough that it's memorable resulting in a rather large installed user base that will probably never ever hear about this recall.

suddenly really happy I bought a gowise instead, even if I'm on my second one because the first had a fan die. at least mine have never ever caught fire, so there's that ;-)

Savet t1_ja0jqn9 wrote

They're offering replacements as part of the recall. They actually have a whole selection of products that it can choose from if you don't want a new air fryer.

1

AccountantVibes t1_ja1rfyn wrote

Can we see this list before going through the process. And if we do still want a new air fryer do you have a list of what replacements they're offering

janjinx t1_ja5x8la wrote

I was actually planning on buying an air fryer until I read some professional kitchen utensil testers say that using a convection oven does the same job but can cook larger amounts of food.
