I'm just off Ardmore and we lost power within the last 30. Reported it to Duquesne light. Wonder if this is why.

Weren’t 2 children killed and a firefighter hurt in a fire last night in Wilkinsburg?

I hope everyone made it out safe and there’s no foul play afoot.

Might not be foul play, just shitty slumlords

I feel that… I rented for a long long time and never had a landlord who actually took care of anything… friggin sad.

I didn't know there was a house fire just last night. Sounds suspicious but then again it's cold and there are a lot of homeless people in the area.

It could be coincidence, but two big fires two nights on a row is a little odd. Is this house a vacant that could have been occupied by homeless persons? I don’t think last night’s was.

From what I can recall, I'm pretty sure this is one of the many vacant houses on this particular road. The house next door is occupied though.

The intersection of Swissvale Ave and South Avenue is probably closed off right now. The closest fire hydrant is on the other side of Swissvale Ave. One truck pulled up to it when we were waiting for the light. Two other trucks turned onto Penn Avenue while we were driving out of the area.

I hope anyone who was inside made it out. To see another beautiful house burn down is hard to witness. I wish I had the wallet to save them.

Thank you for posting this. I was outside walking my dog in North Point Breeze & heard a LOT of fire engines & whistles from that direction. Nothing on WTAE or WPXI, so of course I came here.

News says the house was vacant and there were no casualties, thankfully.

Looking at the area on Google Maps, it's sad to see so many fine old houses in disrepair. Reminds me of Detroit ...

oak-hearted t1_iudpknt wrote

And of course Detroit for a very long time had serious issues with arson on abandoned properties around Halloween. I certainly hope that isn't catching on here.

Is Pittsburgh becoming abandoned??

I'm not sure, but there seem to be a lot of empty houses in that particular neighborhood.

Do you know much about crafton heights??

Willow-girl t1_iuhh9ef wrote

No. What's going on there?

Cabbagefolk t1_iuhhe38 wrote

Haha nothing, besides the fact that I’m trying to move there so I’m just making sure I’m not moving to an unsavory part

The only thing I know about Crafton is it's where my brother-in-law got busted by the cops trying to score some crack for his wife, a recovering addict who occasionally went on a bender. Since my bro-in-law (being a country boy, and not a drug user himself) was obviously clueless, the cops let him off with just a warning.

Make of that what you will.

Oh my god… not to laugh but I swear life is just a curb your enthusiasm episode. I wonder if crafton heights if much different from crafton

I have no idea. I've lived in plenty of bad neighborhoods, though, and my experience has been that if you keep to yourself, maintain situational awareness and don't participate in illicit activities, you'll usually be OK.

I live in an old trailer in the hinterlands now where I have sheep for neighbors. Can recommend!

Cabbagefolk t1_iuhrfbz wrote

Omg I need to google where that is!! Also, I grew up in pretty rough neighborhoods so I agree with you - I can never tell when people are being dramatic about crime And homelessness just because of perspective

Willow-girl t1_iuhwf4g wrote

Well, in all fairness, two victims in a recent shooting were women waiting at a bus stop, so you can be spectacularly unlucky.
