How is this related to Providence in any way? Is Tiverton in Providence now? That’s news to me.
Why not post this on /r/RhodeIsland? Right - you can’t because you’re banned from there for being a spammy troll.
Take your dogwhistles somewhere else please. This post is useless, especially here. This isn’t your personal subreddit to spam golocalprov. What a joke of an organization.
E: telling that there’s removed content on this post but the post itself remains. Hey mods - if you don’t care to take the role seriously then relinquish the right to people who will actually enforce the rules. This isn’t relevant to providence. Why does this user continually evade rule enforcement? /u/m1327. And please address the content and don’t be too offended you were tagged. You clearly don’t review reports. Thanks buddy.

I happened to see the removed comment string here, and I don't think that removed string implies that the post should be removed too. The comment was the most overt racist dog whistle ever, asking about how often Black kids make fun of white kids. Then a concise response to that person that made me chuckle but definitely wasn't very civil.

- Not offended
- I've addressed this in previous discussions. See reddiquette which says "If you think something contributes to conversation, upvote it. If you think it does not contribute to the subreddit it is posted in or is off-topic in a particular community, downvote it."
- I do review reports, and I'm not the only one that does so.

Tiverton: the Alabama of RI? Seriously, what a fucked up little town. I do enjoy reading about their ongoing Town Council drama in the Newport Daily News, though. Very entertaining.

Not sure why the downvotes, but I'll go on the record as saying fuck that. Downvote me too.

From the article:

On Monday, BLM RI PAC released the following statement:
"On Thursday evening February 2nd, 2023, Shea High School's boys basketball team played an away game at Tiverton High School. During the game racial slurs were heard from spectators, such as the n-word and other slurs, as well as making monkey noises when players were taking their free throws. It was reported to us that parents and students from Tiverton were the culprits. We have received these allegations from multiple students, student athletes, teachers and parents who attended the game in support of Shea High School.
This culture of blatant racism is still alive, not only across the country but right here in Rhode Island. This is a startling trend, as just recently racist and discriminatory propaganda was found at one of our local state colleges. We are deeply saddened not only for the student athletes but also for any family, friends, or community members that had to witness such heinous acts. It's a surprise to us that the town of Tiverton would foster a culture where outright racism is tolerated. We demand those who committed these vile acts be brought under investigation by the Tiverton School District, the town of Tiverton, and the Rhode Island Department of Education. The use of racist and intolerant language has no place in our society and especially our schools."

This post and your account perpetuate more unfounded racism than this act and this article.
Get a life dude. We get it - you’re utterly terrified of anyone whose skin is darker than a pale mayo.

Reminds me of the Catholic Memorial vs Newton North game from a few years back, same premise but traded religious shots.

Wasn’t this already investigated and proven to be a non Tiverton student who was making the racial comments and no student, parent or other person affiliated to the school partook, except for one student who used abusive, non-racial language?
Tuttle is crying wolf.
ryanfingawesome t1_j7qckqz wrote
ah yes, the school investigated itself and found no wrong doing by anyone with an affiliation to itself. first class investigatory work and no one should look any further into it. typical cop mentality to victim blame too, good for you.
SaltyNewEnglandCop t1_j7qm8cp wrote
It would appear that the other side of this incident, Shea, is doing their own investigation in conjunction.
Have they said it was substantiated as well?
And don’t you think in todays age, there would be video of this on SnapChat or Instagram of all these students being racist?
ryanfingawesome t1_j7qmlq6 wrote
is doing their own investigation, not has done. your initial comment said this was already investigated. which is it there?
SaltyNewEnglandCop t1_j7qn9in wrote
Tiverton has done their investigation, and unless something else comes up, it’s complete.
Shea conducted their own, according to the Tiverton Superintendent Sanchioni. But according to his statement, he used the term “conducted”, which would imply theirs is done as well.
RIIL is conducting their own as well, but the way it’s worded in the article could be read as they did theirs already, or are doing it still.
I should have said Shea did their own.
ryanfingawesome t1_j7qojhv wrote
so again, tiverton investigated themselves and was like ‘hey wasn’t us’ and you’re just taking that at face value and claiming that calling for an independent investigation is “crying wolf” as you put it? cool
SaltyNewEnglandCop t1_j7qp7vo wrote
Should they not have investigated?
Should they have called the FBI, ATF, DHS and Wyoming Department of Public Safety?
Let’s be honest here, you’d be more upset if they didn’t investigate this incident, but since they found out it wasn’t as bad as reported, you’re mad.
But here you are, strictly believing the words of someone who wasn’t there and has less experience than a janitor who attended the game to clean up afterwards.
An investigation is based on facts, and it would appear that the facts do not support the claim as of what has been released today.
Or you can go conspiracy theorist and think that the town of Tiverton is full KKK and this is just a coverup and BIPOC are unsafe in the east side of the state.
ryanfingawesome t1_j7qpfg1 wrote
i’m not strictly believing anyone’s word. i am in favor of an independent investigation. your reading comprehension is about as solid as i would expect from a cop.
SaltyNewEnglandCop t1_j7qpym2 wrote
Oh my reading comprehension is fine, I know you’re a upset they did their own investigation, which is exactly what they should have done.
You’re upset with their findings. And did you forget that Shea is doing their own? As well as RIIL? So you’re getting a three for one deal here.
So will you still be upset when all three come to the same conclusion, if that’s the result? Will your opinion on someone doing their own investigation change? Or will everyone have to have independent investigation by a world class investigator for every small incident?
ryanfingawesome t1_j7qqdnd wrote
go easy on the lead paint over there, boomer. you’re becoming pretty incoherent.

r/providence Rule #1 Relation
"Submissions must relate to Providence and surrounding area. This is a broad category and can relate to the state or greater New England area so long as it will be of interest to Providence residents."
People who create new accounts to complain that rules aren't being enforced should probably read the rules beforehand. The post is not off-topic.
