Has anyone taken Uber/Lyft from Providence to Boston recently? Are there generally drivers available and willing to do this route on a weekday afternoon? I've seen some threads on this but most are from pre-Covid or lockdown times, so I thought I'd ask again.

I'm definitely not looking at Uber/Lyft as a first choice since it's expensive. My plan's to take the commuter rail or Amtrak. But I'm travelling for something time-sensitive, so I want a back-up option in case there is a train disruption.

Thanks!

I got a Lyft from Providence to Logan at like 3:30am, so I think you'll be able to find a driver in mid-afternoon. It was pretty expensive though at around $100. Depending on what time you need to be there you can also check out the Peter Pan bus line (~$25 each way). They go directly to the airport from their Providence bus depot but it doesn't run super frequently.

I've taken a Lyft from pvd to Logan once. Be aware that it's likely be hideously expensive, like $100-$200, which wouldn't be fun to learn if you need one as an emergency backstop. Depending on what exactly you're doing, it might be more cost-effective to rent a car for 1 or 2 days and just park it.

You can schedule a pick up ahead of time, I took a Lyft from Providence to Logan a couple months ago during rush hour and had no problem. Cost like $85 I think.

Yep - was gonna comment this as well. When I am going to Logan I schedule my ride ahead of time. I've seen the price vary from $64 - $180 though so it's a big range depending on the time & demand for drivers.

They are available but don't always love making that trip. I've done it 4 or 5 times, usually for Sox games or meeting with friends.

I have taken Uber to Logan many times. Mostly around $75, occasionally around $100. One time, I took one from Logan back here that cost $200, just a few dollars less than the flight I had just taken. But it was past midnight and I just wanted to get home.

Honestly between the Commuter Rail and Amtrak (Northeast Corridor and Acella trains), unless we have 3 feet of snow you should be alright. Especially heading towards Boston on the Commuter Rail.

Agreed. But timing is important. I often have pre 6:30 am flights out of Logan, or arrive around midnight. Then it doesn't work.

I just took Lyft to Logan on Monday and returned tonight. Was about $75 plus tip. I generally give a 10% tip and some cash as well.

Both drivers said they pick up rides along the way back.

It's a lot easier for MA based Lyft/Uber drivers to pick up riders on the way back. RI based drivers usually won't be able to pick up passengers until they reach the RI border. I actually stopped taking rideshares to Logan because I feel terrible for how inconvenient it is to the driver. Depending on the time of day, they may be stuck driving for 90 minutes back to RI without earning a dime.

Scheduling is the best way so you know they won’t cancel on you.

It's important to note that scheduled ubers still can cancel and there are some horror stories out there-- their TOS guarantees nothing. The only guarantee that OP will get there in time would be to spend that $150 on a hotel room near the airport/shuttle if this flight is really that important.

You could rent a uhaul pick up or small van ahead of time. It’s 20 bucks a day plus 99 cents a mile. As long as you don’t put a ton of miles on it, it is cheaper than Uber.

Last time I checked, Uber was not available in PVD. Just Lyft.

I also haven’t used a ridesharing app in over a year, so maybe service has changed since.
